Week 27 - France F6 ($15,000+H) - Montauban (Clay)

This is the first time Almeida has made it through Futures qualifying in 5 attempts this year.

Robin has only just turned 19 and has a pretty poor results sheet for this year - lots of matches and lots of victories but only at lowly levels.

Oli really shouldn't have any trouble at all.

If (when) Oli wins he'll face another qualifier as Alex Massa (Q) plays Yanais Laurent (Q).

On paper, Laurent is better but there's not much in it (both are better than Robin). However, nothing to be worried about . . .

See you in the QF Oli . . .

*3-2 second set. Oli just dropped his serve for the second time.

Slightly surprising as Mr Almeida has never made it out of qualifying before, and this is only his 5th ever ITF pro event. His career high junior ITF ranking was 781.

Assumed this would be a bagel/breadstick type affair, but there we go!

VERY long pause between games, so perhaps Oli is injured or ill.....which might explain why this has all been so much tougher than it ought to be.

2 breaks to Oli, 1 to his opponent. How easy did you say this was going to be CD?!

Is that a technical tennis expression?

Oh definitely. You'll find it in the index of the teaching manuals, just after 'Drop shot' and before 'End game'.

Well, I agree Korri, that he seemed to make heavy weather of it but the final score is pleasing enough (Oli wins 6-4, 6-2) so onwards and upwards Oliver . . . .

A win is a win!

Very good points available this week, with a very average looking $10k level field.

4 points for a QF, 10 for a SF, 20 for a F and 35 for a W.

From CD's perspectives on his first 2 round opponents, should be 4 points for just turning up, with a very nice reward for playing well when it matters later this week.

I'd be more confident if he's beaten Robin really easily (of the three Frenchmen, Robin is the weakest by a fair margin) but Oli still SHOULD find the next round pretty easy sailing (assuming no injuries or whatever).
Hadn't realised the points were so generous. Thanks. Good choice of competition.
