It's sad that a bit of light-hearted irony from one poster met by another bit of light-hearted irony from another seems to have got mistinterpreted both ways round, but those are the hazards of the body language-less Internet ...
A stat (albeit rather selective) which gives some idea of where RJA was coming from - this year, Evo has a better record against players in the 30-100 range (80%, 4-1) than he has against players who were lower-ranked than him when they met (76%, 22-7)
Another bizarre stat that came out of checking those numbers is that only 3 of Dan's 39 matches this year were against players in the 150-400 range, i.e. about 100 places either side of the range he has spent much of the last few months in. It may be because he has tended to aim high (ATPs & a Challenger that wasn't far off in strength from some ATPs) or low (GB Futures) with not much in between. I seem to remember noticing this when I checked another player's record too though - I wonder if the seeding system has the (undesirable, you'd think) effect of stopping similarly-ranked players from meeting that often, unless the top few seeds regularly all get to the round they are seeded to reach.

I didn't see that coming - I mean Veger was a decent junior and, at just 18, probably better than his 764 senior ranking suggests, but he was also on a 5-match losing streak and, well, I didn't think Dan would have too much trouble with him. But bad result as it was, I don't quite get ...

Disappointing but not remotely surprising. Everything about today had disaster waiting to happen written all over it.
Am I missing something? Why did today have disaster waiting to happen written all over it?

This is exactly the kind of match that always worries me with Dan. I don't know whether it is a lack of professionalism or just a frustrating inability to motivate himself but Dan frequently loses matches like this.
Maybe RJA trying to live up to the rep of knocking Evo at every opportunity?
Given the the huge number of very positive things I have said about Evo for many years such a reputation could only exist in the minds of the exceptionally dimwitted.
