It does beggar belief that so few players can manage to cover their expenses , let alone make a living, in a sport that makes
ample money for vast corporations.
If Jamie takes the same work ethic and dedication into another field whoever employs him should consider themselves very lucky

I'm not sure I agree. Plenty of professions have tiny numbers of people who earn a fortune, and thousands who earn nothing. Acting, Music, and many sports apart from tennis immediately spring to mind. The supposed anomaly is fully explained in the "Why do drug dealers live with their Moms?" chapter in Freakonomics.
And I don't know of any vast corporations that make ample money from tennis. Who did you have in mind?
