Can you enter a GB Tour event ? How does that work Steven ? It's obviously a few steps down.

You need to have achieved a certain LTA rating to enter British tour events. I think it is 5.1 for Grade 1 and 6.1 for Grade 2.

Ok, thank you for that.

NB Does anyone know James Allemby? He's been in France for the last month or so, playing tournaments. Not very successfully, so far, unfortunately. Was top seed in his most recent one, came straight into the semi-final but lost in three sets. But it only cost him 16 euros to enter (10 if he's a youngster) and he'll have picked up some sort of cheque for being a semi-finalist.

ok so say i went to sign into qualies at edinburg futures next year and the draw was not full i would get in? based on the last couple of years the edinburgh futures seems to usually have a fair few byes in the 1st round. i obiously would expect to be beat 6-0 6-0 but would be cool to say i played a pro tournament!

regarding british tours someone from my uni plays them, he's a 4.2 and has to go through qualifying and sometimes pre qualifying and usually dosn't get into main draw.

If he puts up with us, there might be an argument that he is (but in the nicest way)!

Have to say that while, unlike Ms Robson and Mr Murray's wins, this is unlikely to be front-page news, I've been hoping for this particular win (or some version of it) for a long time. Hurrah for Mr Howe.

Thanks Spectator. "for a long time"? I hadn't realised it had been that long since my last futures win- that's what happens when you play sporadically- a couple of losses and you're in a drought it seems. I'm on a 14 out of 15 match winning streak in non-pro tournaments since easter, so I just need to bring that form into these futures.

Apologies, Mr Howe. That was meant as a supportive - and indeed, celebratory - comment, not as a criticism, and I'm sorry that it came across differently.

I'm aware that you only play sporadically - so we don't get the occasion on here to follow your results very often. It seemed as though it had been a while - checking back it hasn't actually been that long. But as friends and relations could tell you, I have a tendency to expand or elide time in my memory in ways that would make a Time Lord shudder. At any rate, the emphasis was not meant to be on the length of time, but on the victory, and the implication was certainly not meant to be that you were - though in arid climes - experiencing a drought. Congratulations - and good luck in your next match!

Going by his response I think that Gregory understood the supportive nature of your post.

No stress- thanks meant thanks for the support. Suddenly the clay went from light and fast to slow and heavy in 24 hours and my Czech opponent hit even heavier. Hard courts soon.

Re: British Tour, not all of them are so strong. Especially the grade 2's, I've seen people enter with ratings much lower than 5.2. Usually they have 3 draws: main, qualifying and pre-qualifying I have certainly seen cases where there is no pre-qualy draw so there would be space for anyone to enter. The sign up process is through the LTA website and I think they are £20 a pop.
