Girls: Wimbledon Juniors - Grade A (Week 27)

Qualifying starts tomorrow with new Brit Jessica Simpson making the draw on ranking, and joined by 5 wildcards. It would appear that as well as Katy Dunne, Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart main draw wildcards have probably gone to Isabelle Wallace, Lana Rush, Anna Brogan, Gabi Taylor, Freya Christie and Maia Lumsden. If there are others for Brits then Danielle Konotoptseva and Eden Silva are possibilities

(7) Marika Akkerman (CAN) v (WC) Mirabelle Njoze

pippa played really well against the mexican girl yesterday... lots of long rallies with the mexican taking her time to get used to the grass but pippa kept her cool when zarazua started playing her way into the match. looked fit and was hitting a very solid ball. havent seen the kazak girl play but will be a tough test! not sure of any results or if they have even got on court yet?!

The Swiss benefited most from Wimbledon having more relaxed rules than the LTA - both Belinda Bencic and Karin Kennel not entering and being seeded via wildcards.

Katy looks to be in a section without outstanding opposition until the quarters (Bencic). Harriet will do well to get past round 1, against a highly rated player with good results at both junior and pro level this year, in a limited set of tournaments, to have a crack at Konjuh. Freya has the nightmare draw of Bencic.

Sigh. Why did our lone seed have to wind up in the Bencic quarter, and the promising Ms Dart next to Konjuh (if she gets that far)? At least, taking the two junior draws together, no one can suggest that the AELTC rigs the draw in favour of its own ....

Good news - Pippa joins the party in SW19 smile

FQR

(WC) Pippa Horn d. (2) Asiya Dair (KAZ) 6-2 6-4

All the Q slots are reasonably favourable, with the exception of one seed (16th seed Ipek Soylu, who won two finals against Katie in south-east Asia earlier this year)

Sadly Katy doesn't win another game, going down 2-6 2-6 with the stats not looking good for her.

Katy lost 6-2 6-2

8 double faults, 32 unforced errors. Sounds pretty ghastly

That's about as bad as it gets really. Katy will be very disappointed with that, really was looking for her to do something good this week.
