Knowing very little about doubles (as has been shown!!!), is it normal for the draw in a Grand Slam to have all the seeds getting a bye in their first round ?

When I look at the draws, that seems to be the case. Surely there are other teams who'd like to play.

In fact, Ken has just tweeted:

k_skupski - Very disappointed not to get another chance to play mixed doubles this year @wimbledon. #focusonthedubs

Is it a scheduling thing ?

I'm not sure of the point of mixed doubles. I think it's only played at the grand slams and their are no points on offer, so they are playing for a bit of extra prize money and the glory of picking up a trophy.

A bit of fun, a bit extra money, some entertaining matches for the spectators and the chance of a nice trophy.

That is SO not true. Although I do love the commitment and power-hitting of mixed dubs, I can hardly contain my excitement about next week's Over 45's. I'm really hoping that Bahrami, Cash, Leconte and their buddies are on their usual side-splitting form. smile

A bit of a struggle but Jonny and Heather eventually take the first set 6-3.

They won't cancel a scheduled match in order to play a match that hasn't been allocated a court. Besides, there are quite a few courts were the two matches you mention could end up, Court 2 or Court 3 for example. Given that it is a brighter day they should be able to play till at least 9 o'clock, possibly a bit later.
