''In relation to the Bally/Kyle crowd, they were on court 3, which is usually half empty cos it's ticketed. They need to get rid of that system and leave it fully open to the public. It looked less than half full when Bally started yesterday. ''
I don't think you should get rid of a system just because it did not produce the result you were hoping for or try and use lack of crowd support as an excuse as to why they lost. As wildcards, they should be grateful they are in the tournament at all.
You think that if the ticketing system on Court 3 usually leaves it half-empty (as indeed it does), there's nothing wrong with that system and they shouldn't think about changing it?

Didn't actually say that! I just think if Bally/Kyle had won we wouldn't be making an issue of it or not quite to the same extent.
Hev still seems a step slower and down a little bit on energy which of course is understandable, just hope there's nothing still lingering regarding her health. Otherwise I think she would have stretched Keys to a close match. Don't like the way Sam Smith perpetually writes off Hev as having nothing on her groundies as she has much more power than most people give her credit for.
Unless Kiri has an injury issue it will probably be a whitewash which will be very sad but given the draws was always a decent possibility.
The AELTC are looking at the possibility of allowing non-ticketed access to courts 2 and 3 in the future. The problem they have at the moment is lack of a queueing area for these courts but they are hopeful of resolving that problem.
Heather's prospects for the next 18 months or so look very difficult, for an unfortunate reason.
She now has 5 mandatory scores in her 16 counters racked up whilst she was at the worst of her symptoms, recuperating from them, or early in to her comeback. Those 5 scores total just 20 ranking points, and cannot begin to be dropped for about a year. It's going to be mighty tough for Hev to improve on her scores, she'll need QF and better at a 235K just to make any ground at all. She has only 2 30pt scores to upgrade as her lowest changeable scores for a year - so winning just one round is no good, scoring 30 points is redundant, she needs 70's or better, and if she gets more than 2 of those, she already has the strong second half from last year that 70's will only just barely upgrade. Then there is also the 280 from her great win in Osaka to defend at the end of the year - very hard to upgrade that!
Short of very strong showings in USO or Beijing (if eligible!) it's hard to see her being able to add much to her current points haul even with a solid week in week out performance.
Is it possible that this mandatory score straight-jacket could contribute to Hev finishing close to WR100, and only really being able to kick on again when all spots in her ranking are back 'open'?
Do I have this right? It seems as though Heathers illness came at the worst possible time.
Sorry that this is garbled, I'm trying to get my head around this concept, and haven't explained myself very well. I hope someone understands though

Apologies Paul - misinterpreted your comments initially - you were just relaying something that was all.
Hev sounding a bit down in her interview, but I think its mostly frustration because she couldn't play at the level she knows is there because she's not fully fit.

Yes, you've got that about right. Being ranked in the 40s and 50s is probably the hardest area to make progress from precisely because you have to count scores from the mandatories but are going to be lucky to win more than a round in them and of course it's even worse if you are forced to miss them completely or be play them when you are way below your best through injury or illness. Heather will be ranked in the 60s after Wimbledon, so she would have had the advantage of not having to count a score for Madrid if that was coming up now. As it is, her scores for the last 5 mandatories (including slams) are:
5 (IW - played but ill) 5 (Miami - played but ill) 0 (Madrid - missed) 5 (RG - played but still recovering) 5 (Wimbledon - played but still nowhere near fully fit)
I think her main focus at the moment has to be on getting back to full fitness (she can't be anywhere near that yet given all the training she has missed) while being careful to ensure she doesn't make herself ill again. Hopefully she will manage to defend enough points to finish next year's AO (where she also has R3 points to defend) still well inside the top 100 and will then have the chance to start making a serious move up the rankings again next year.
