Whoever takes over from Roger has got a very low bar to clear next year.
Tomorrow's papers are not going to make good reading. 6 British wild cards all lost today and it is hard to see Tara not making it 7 out of 7.
Although it may well be overshadowed by Nadals exit.... But it has been dismal today especially on the womens side and no one can really say otherwise!!
I sincerely hope that Anne doesn't join the commentary team, what we don't need is another monotone drone a la Sam Smith and Andrew Castle.
Agree that Jo played well, hope she can make it into the top 100 soon and gain some more experience.
This is me just thinking out loud, but perhaps the wildcards should've gone to some of the younger players to give them a taste of what it is like to be on the big stage and give them something to aim for, as opposed to Sam Murray who never realistically had a chance or Anne who (despite her contribution to British Tennis over the years) has played dismally recently.
Anne's face when she was walking off court said to me she felt she was walking off court for the last time. That photo on the LTA site just makes me sad.
I think she'll make a great commentator if that's the route she goes down. Very pretty, very articulate, very likeable, and she's competed against or hit with most of the top players.
Sorry if Anne K retires but she has been struggling for over a year and I dont think she should drop down the rankings like Mel South. As for commentators I like Sam Smith Anne might be ok time to get rid of Jo Durie anyway lol
Sports is very emotional because we share the highs and lows with the players for so many years and see their triumps and low points, but it is important to keep things in perspective. If Anne retires, she does so having been an extremely successful athlete and one of the key players in the transformation of British tennis. She isnt even 30 yet though so her ''working life'' is still young and she has a lot to look forward to, I dont doubt.
All over 6-3 6-4 pretty easy outclassed ability wise an fitness wise. Maybe a bit out of depth at this level.
I get the point.
You don't think any of the GB women are any good, you think most of them should retire, or be retired, you think they're always outclassed, you think they're bordering on a disgrace, and useless, and you will use every opportunity to belittle them, kick them when they're down and pour relentlessly negative scorn on them under the cover of 'objective opinion'. I get the point.
The previous 290 times you made exactly the same point I didn't quite get it, but I get it now.
Your other point is always - 'Why aren't there any good British women coming through - look at the bums we have to endure'?
Well, it is perishingly difficult to get young girls in this country engaged in any sort of sport, let alone competitive sport, let alone stick with it long enough to have a shot at elite sport. With commentators like this, why would wnyone want to sign up for that?
You can respond, and I'm very sure you will, I won't be around to read about it. I'm done. The real world is providing enough Jeremiah's for me at the moment.
Thanksto all who shared their knowledge and keep the site running. Much appreciated.
Good luck to the Brits here and in future.
Hmm interesting you are making up comments I've made or interpreting them to suit your mood. I ll forgive you though on the basis that it's been an awful day for British Tennis and we are all a bit down about it.
Finalily though you have no idea about my knowledge on tennis I'm assuming your comments being I have none even though you don't know me. One of my friends actually plays on the mens tour and is ranked I'm simply venting the same frustrations as many.
