I think that chance is slightly more than non-negligible, but as always you just never know! ..........and why oh why does Laura always seem to draw the highest ranked opponent of any of the Brits in the 1st round at Wimbledon???

"Plays better against top players" does not necessarily mean "win's more matches against top players". She can play better against a top player than she does against lower ranked players and still win fewer matches, as the top player will also usually be playing better than a lower ranked opponent. I don't have the stats to hand, but I think the ratio against the top players looked pretty good before taking a dent from her two losses to Wozniacki.
edit: I see Bally's usual luck at slams is holding out.

Another tricky draw for Laura. She could take Kirilenko, especially as Maria seems to be carrying a few niggling injuries at the moment. I would hope for wins for Heather and Bally too given it's grass. Can't see anybody else progressing to be honest
I don't think the draw is too bad - at least the top 8 seeds were avoided and only two of the Brits have drawn seeds at all.
However, in general the higher-ranked Brits have drawn the stronger opponents and vice versa (and the two with probably the weakest opponents have got bad H2Hs against them), which means that although a few of them might have a chance, there is also a non-negligible chance of a complete wipeout.

I'm pretty disappointed with Laura's draw too. The chances of drawing a top 10 seed in back to back slams is 1% so its pretty unlucky to have happened. Laura has also drawn 6/11 seeds in slams vs what should be 1 in 3. Wimbledon not looking after its members
Pretty tough draws... I'd have to back all the non brits except for Heather, Bally and Sam.... although that doesn't mean I'd be confident enough to back them to win!!
I think Hev is back to where she was before, standard wise, but still lacking match tightness + Madison is a very tough competitor with heaps of talent. Wouldn't like to call it.
Bally I feel has a great chance especially given her form the past couple of weeks & I'm feeling quite optimistic about her chances!
I know Giorgi had a good run last year and beat Sam easily in the qualies a couple of years ago, but I don't think that fully reflects either of their form right now. Sam has a pretty big game on the grass & whilst it would still be an upset I can see her winning this
Other than that... Jankovic, Kanepi, Kirilenko, Muguruza... that's tough... can't see any winners out of that unfortunately. Hoping Laura turns up with her A-game but even then, I think it's a pretty good match up for Kirilenko
Heather has had a decent run in Grand Slams of falling in the section with one of the weakest seeds. Keys is about average as a draw but she will be happy to be only facing the 3th seed Barthel if she wins. On the other hand if Hev does make round 3, guess what, it's Aga again!

But only a month or so ago everybody was saying that Laura only played brilliantly when she faced a higher-ranked, top 20 player. And that her main problem was that she underperformed against players that she was expected to beat . . . .

Some people might have been saying this but not me.
In fact Laura, despite the above reputation, has never lost to a player ranked below 33 in a Grand Slam.
I also have never said any such thing............and just to add to what tony has said she has also never beaten a seed in the first round of Grand Slam (as far as I am aware).
