RE: Weeks 26 & 27: Wimbledon (grass) - doubles

Watch quite a lot of Dave and Sean's doubles. Sean was really struggling on serve. The standard was very up and down, nowhere near the quality of Marray and Fleming's match. The boy's did really well to get it back. Don't forget they were a break down in the third set as well, but you always felt Sean was going to get broken.

Jonny Marray is a class doubles player and he carried Colin today although Klizan was class for 2 sets.

All hope now extinguished:  Llodra/Mahut & Hajek/Levinsky are now warming up on Court 6. hmm

First set in the bag by 6-3. smile  Jamie & Matt seem to be forging quite a useful partnership.

Can it be? Looks like Llodra is down. What horrible luck for him and - if it's something that knocks him out of doubles as well - for Nicolas Mahut (though potentially helpful to J Murray).

And the second, by 7-5.  Just one more, boys,

That thought crossed my mind, too, Spectator, & I've been checking for news of a possible withdrawal since I heard that he'd retired from his match against Seppi after the first set.  He & Mahut (13) are currently still down to play Hajek & Levinsky in the final match on Court 6, however.  I presume an alternate pair will be drafted in if Llodra's injury is anything serious, as he & Mahut haven't yet played their first-round match.

The boys had to recover from a break down early on to capture the third set, but recover they did:

R1: Jamie Delgado & Matt Ebden (AUS) WR 207 defeated (WC) Lleyton Hewitt & Mark Knowles (AUS/BAH) WR 82 (Race) by 6-3 7-5 7-6(4)

The identity of their opponents in the second round will become known later this afternoon, but it could be the fourth seeds, Paes & Ugly Mug.

Much needed win for Jamie. Between now and the US Open he defends over half his points.

Are you sure stepanek is fit then?

Was wondering the same. If not, would an alternate pair go in?

No, but his & Paes' names are still showing on the OoP.

I see from the draw sheet that there are three pairs of lucky losers in already, viz. three of the pairs who lost in the second round of the qualies (Brown/Junaid [q1], Johnson & Siljeström [q7] & Kudla & Smyczek).  I know absolutely nothing about the criteria which govern these things, but Colin Ebelthite & Adil Shamasdin, who failed to make it past the first round, were the q5, so could be at the front of the queue, all the other seeded pairs having either qualified (q2, q3, q4 & q8) or got in as the LLs.  Next would be Brydan Klein & Dane Propoggia (q6), but I'd love to think Ed Corrie & Neal Skupski could squeak in through that particular back door! wink

If in fact there is a withdrawal (which one cannot, in fairness, hope is the case), that last scenario would be by far the best, definitely! Maybe Propoggia will have gone home? (Ditto Ebelthite and Shamasdin) No one could possibly have anticipated a scenario in which by Thursday so many people had withdrawn that you were down to the fourth pair of LLs.

The live scoreboard says Bracciali/Erlich & Paes/Stepanek have arrived on Court 7, so that's one down, but we still don't know whether Llodra will be fit to play, so there's still one to go!

 Nope they're on the scoreboard!!

Im guessing both Stephanek and Llodra tanked their singles to therefore focus on doubles!
