Girls: AEGON Junior International Roehampton - Grade 1 (Week 26)

Katy Dunne, Katie Boulter, Isabelle Wallace and Harriet Dart should be in the main draw starting Sunday. Qulaifying in Surbiton starts tomorrow with the draw avaiilable at http://www.lta.org.uk/NewWebsite/LTA/Documents/Fans%20News%20and%20Major%20Events/Results/2013/Aegon%20Junior%20International%20Roehampton/Girls_qualifying_singles.pdf

Danielle Konotoptseva and Pippa Horn are included in qualifying while prime candidates for main draw wildcards include Lana Rush, Gabi Taylor, Anna Brogan, Freya Christie, Alannah Griffin, Jasmine Amber Asghar, Mirabelle Njoze and Maia Lumsden. Note also in qualifying the 11th seed Jessica Simpson is shown as British both here and in the ITF, having seemingly just transferred from South Africa (she is one win away from a Pro ranking)

It looked like Jessica wasn't aware of this herself https://twitter.com/JessicaSimpson7

... until I noticed she hadn't tweeted since last October.

Suddenly thought, maybe she has a new Twitter account, and she does https://twitter.com/SIMPSONjess19 - also it was her 18th birthday yesterday (Wednesday), so maybe the switch coincided with that. I have no idea about the rules re. such things and whether turning 18 is important, but she was still RSA on the Nottingham 50K qualifying draw last week so the switch certainly wasn't made very long ago.

Results are now up on the above link for QR1 with 4 Brit upsets (Pippa, Emily Arbuthnott, Danielle and Sophia Thomas over the 15th, 9th 12th and 14th seeds respectively) along with a narrow win for new Brit Jessica. They will all need to take out a top 8 seed to qualify though.

Some rather nice upsets there, especially on the part of Ms Arbuthnott.

Pippa won 3 and 4 to qualify. Only result I've heard so far!

A good win from Pippa over a fast rising French girl, but there was no joy for the other Brits, though Danielle and Sophia both won a set. The main draw takes place tomorrow evening

Main draw is now up, with the guesses for wildcards proving correct. Katy Dunne is seeded 5, in the bottom quarter with Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart, and opens against the Aussie ex-Brit Naiktha Bains. Katie is up against JWR5 Barbora Krejcikova whilst Freya Christie draws the short straw of former JWR1 Taylor Townsend.

Horrible draws all round really. Almost all the brits getting a top 8 seed to play. Hoping for a few upsets.

Interested to see how Gabby and Maia get on

Great wins for Lana, Maia and Gabby. It was always going to be tough for Mirabelle, Jasmine and Freya. A little disappointing for Izzy.

Katy Dunne prevailed in 3 sets, Harriet dropped the 1st set 6-1 but powered back to upset her seeded opponent. Katie Boulter pushed the 2nd seed to 2 tiebreaks but sadly couldn't clinch either.

Katie Boulter seems to have given a good account against Krejcikova - JWR5 and WTA WR463

That's a good win for katy as Naiktha was practicing very well at Eastbourne and is primed for a big move up the junior rankings after a difficult 12 months.
Not sure how easily Naiktha qualified but I was speaking to her dad and he is very positive about her future, short and long term.
