Nick Bolletieri made some really nice points in the studio at Queen's last week - basically that there is one winner and one loser in a tennis match: playing well but losing only cuts it if you use the lessons to beat the person next time; winning playing badly is better. Furthermore, it's essential to ignore all rankings before a match, because there are so many variables at play (both controllable and uncontrallable) that the lower ranked player CAN win every time. Noone is safe. Playing at home in front of a partisan crowd in 40 ranking point matches (where even higher ranked players must get nervous) on grass MUST give many of our girls a boost, so here's hoping another 1 or 2 at least draw inspiration to claim their prize.
