Week 25 - Spain F18 ($10,000) - Melilla (Hard)

You don't often see Spanish Futures with no players inside the top 500, but the entry for this one is limited by the fact that it is held in a Spanish exclave on the Moroccan coast rather than on the mainland. Having said that, Matt has picked up probably the trickiest R1 draw a seed could have got, though it gets a lot better if he survives R1.

L32: (6) Matt Short WR 775 v Ricardo Ojeda Lara (ESP) WR 799 (= CH)

Matt was replaced by a lucky loser

He has just tweeted "in Málaga" which is not far from being directly opposite Melilla, which suggests he probably was in Melilla ... unless a ferry strike stopped him getting there!

Curiouser & curiouser:  he & his Portuguese doubles patner, Gonçalo Oliveira, gave their first-round opponents, the Spanish fourth seeds, a walkover into the QF...
