Baker v Viola was a pretty poor match. It was the case of the least bad player winning.
Boggo played very well and on form he is better player than Semjan so his win should not be a surprise.
Rice had an easy win. His opponent hasn't played for 15 months and clearly needs a couple of months in the gym to get back in shape.
Corrie played the best I have ever seem him play. He was still second best in terms of quality but through grit and consistency, and a few inspirational moments, he kept himself in the match and nearly pulled off an upset.
Burton, outclassed and never in the match.
Goodall held serves comfortably till *4-5 in the first and then was broke to love. Simple mental weakness, nothing more, nothing less. Second set was better under pressure but threw away a *4-1 and *6-4 lead in the tie break.
Didn't see much of JWH but he seemed to do pretty well for himself. Two close sets with breaks coming late in both.
As for Evo. Didn't play his best, his serve was particular problematic and didn't put as many balls in court as he should. However his opponent played very well and was clearly far more comfortable on a grass court than I think most of us were expecting. Apart from a five game spell in the second set he barely missed a ball all match and his returning was highly effective.
On a wider note I thought the courts were terrible. Probably the slowest grass courts that I have ever seen and Jamie Baker commented that it was like playing on clay.

Groth takes the 1st set v Josh 6-4 - pity, very close until the 10th game (on Josh's serve) which, er, wasn't ...
Baker 4-4* in the 3rd ... looked like an easy hold for Viola but it's not back to deuce - I must admit, I thought Jamie was going to have less trouble winning this, but he now has bp - come on!
Boggo into a 1st set tiebreak, got an early mini-break, now up *5-4, can he serve it out ...
Baker breaks and will serve for the match 4-6 6-3 *5-4

QR2: (wc) Jamie Baker WR 304 v Igor Kunitsyn (RUS) WR 208 (CH 35 in 2009)
H2H 1-2 but Jamie won their last meeting 6 & 3 at last year's Athens Challenger, so must surely fancy his chances here. The Russian only seems to be playing one event per month this year.
