Wow just comeback from watching the match live, happy to see that everybody on here was as impressed as I was. Last saw Kyle play live 12 months ago at the Newcastle futures tournament when Oli swept the board. 12 months later the improvement is staggering, the gasps from the crowd sitting alongside me after some of Kyle's shots said it all. I believe I bored everybody silly sitting along side me with the amount of running commentary I gave and background I gave on Kyle during the match.
Who said Clay was his best surface ?!
Beechy was so chuffed afterwards as well.
To be fair Simon was well below his best, and Kyle faded a little in the second when Simon's level also dropped, and it would be wrong to get carried away, but still WOW.

Phil - Did Simon have his ankle taped/strapped? I heard he had to be carried from the practice court the other day!

He wasn't during the match.  They had a close up of him early in the 2nd set and he looked a nervous wreck smile

Just thought of something. I know the odds are against this anfd it is hypothetical but what if Kyle was to draw James Ward in the first round of the main draw on Monday or Tuesday? Who would you have your money on? From what I've heard I would go for Kyle. It would certainly draw a crowd as much as I am not a fan of wildcards.

He looked fine in that respect, but looked to be feeling it physically during the 2nd set, partially because of Kyle's great play.

Haha. Hell I was a nervous wreck as well! I said to him afterwards that he was doing a great job with Kyle, and his reply was something like this is only the beginning:)

I would definitely expect a James Ward win.  Don't get me wrong, I am Kyle's biggest fan, but James is also playing a good standard at the moment.  His main problem is getting over the finish line which I am sure is because he feels intimidated against the bigger names in key moments. He would not feel that intimidation against Kyle as they know each other so well.

As I am sure you are aware, they met in a Challenger not so long back and Wardy won quite easily.

Nice tweet from Alize Cornet to prove we did witness something special:
UK got talent, Kyle Edmond remember this name. I bet this guy will play amazing.

OK. So if you are Kyle right now and looking forward to the draw for Wimbledon, what are you hoping for ? Would you prefer to draw a player with the potential for a victory and good points (and given his performance today there are more than a few of those out there), or Roger Federer first up on Centre Court for the experience ?

If I was Kyle, I would want a winnable first round draw. Get the points and the prize money and then have a go at the seed in the second round which would almost certainly be on a show court.

Draw a player in the first round that is beatable, beat him, then play a seed in R2 who picks up an injury giving him even more points. Points very useful to say getting into Challengers, and I'd put points ahead of the lure of a top seed.

..but then very nice to play Fed in R3.

..and if the seed he happened to come up against in round 2 were Andy? Would you still want the injury (only joking LOL!)

Clearly it's not Andy, because Kyle is down to play Fed in R3 !

I could give preferences for this injured lower seed, but maybe not LOL

I know he might have potential but let's not forget he is only in the draw on the back of a wildcard - ha has not actually earned the right to be there despite what he might have done over the past week - so he ought to be grateful he's there at all. Everybody would like a winnable first round draw.

When I spoke to Kyle earlier in the week, his schedule post Wimby were the Brit future events on grass. We shall see if that changes now.

I'd be happy for him to go back to futures, if he were to win two in close susscession, I think it would be time to move on
