Unreturnable first serve 1-0* 2nd serve from Simon, Kyle tries a big forehand, nets it 1-1* 1st serve from Simon, Kyle hits backhand long *1-2 1st serve, Simon hits long *2-2 Strong 1st serve, Simon pushes the ball out wide 3-2* Long rally 20 shots + mainly backhand to backhand, Kyle tries to change to Simon's forehand but nets 3-3*
1st serve, Kyle nets *3-4 2nd serve, rally ensues, Kyle loops a forehand, just out *3-5 2nd serve, Kyle hits backhand straight to the middle of the court, too easy for Gilles who angles a backhand outwide which was too much for Kyle 3-6* Double Fault from Simon 4-6* Great point from Edmund makes Simon go from side to side, he gets to most of them but puts a forehand wide *5-6 Decent rally, Kyle tries to go cross court with a forehand, but hits it too high and it goes long. SET SIMON 7-6(5)
Of course Simon will win this match, but my word, how impressively is Kyle playing? The contrast to what I have seen live of Oli, Liam, Luke, and the rest couldn't be more stark....completely different class of power, point construction, nerve, etc.

Wow!
I certainly agree with this but before we do get too excited it needs to be acknowledged that Simon is not playing at all well.
Impressed with what I have seen so far. Edmund is matching Simon shot for shot and is not getting outplayed at all. If anything Simon is winning the longer rallies, but at the end of the first set Simon really was blowing hard.
Both look like clay courters, so for Kyle to step up another level, he needs to add a bit of punch and variation on his serve and a little more guile to his game i.e slice and a drop shot, but he definitely should be playing challengers(successfully) shortly and ATP events on a regular basis in the future.
