I see that three main draw mens wc's have been marked "next direct entrant", does either of the other slams do this? I find it a shame but, we've seen it before in recent years. What I am more surprised is doubles, of the 7 pairs they give out, 2 are to Brits, 1 to Aussies, 1 to be annouced and three to "next direct entrant".
Given the huge interest Brits on court can cause on the outside courts, could they not have involved a few more Brits? Neal Skupski is not involved yet for example. Youngsters Joshua Ward Hibbert or Lewis Burton would surely benefit from being introduced this way? Ed Corrie has done well at doubles albeit at a lower level. James Ward/Josh Goodall/Jamie Baker or Alex Bogdanovic are more senior but but surely more worthwhile than a next direct entrant. What about a Fitzy or Slabba who could really use the payday and I am sure would not disgrace themselves?

Thanks - very interesting and entertaining at times (including a naughty but nice dig at the GEMs ) with lots of sense being talked. I'm also impressed that the radio station bothered to do such an in-depth interview.
Richard was very unappreciated by the powers that be, I thought, even when he was in the top 200 - what wouldn't we give to have the 2 Bs (Bloomers and Boggo) at their peak now ...

I'm not a huge fan of doubles (as a sport of equal ranking to tennis singles) but it has a lot of crowd attraction and seems a perfect way to add a little extra British presence without being too controversial.
There seemingly are 2 WC for the Qualifications still unattributed in both men's and women's doubles. I didn't even know that there were qualies for doubles. And when I look at Roland Garros I can't find any mention of them. Bizarre . . .
And 5 mixed doubles MD WCs still to be handed out. (And 1 WC for both mens and ladies) So maybe some Brits will get one of those.
But I think your suggestions, Shhh, are spot on for other potentials who have obviously been decided against, for one reason or another. Seems a shame.
Still 2 places in the ladies MD and 1 in the ladies Q up for grabs (if the site is to be believed, while adding Katy Dunne's card). But no places left in the men's - they've all gone.
And, scottie1, yes, I was wondering last night why Oli decided to pass on Wimbledon this year . . . .

Neal is hoping to get a wild card into doubles qualifying with Ed Corrie.
Only Slam that still plays best of 5 in final round of singles qualifying Only Slam that still plays best of 5 in men's doubles Only Slam that still plays best of 3 in mixed doubles (the others use a MTB at one set all, and the awful no ad scoring method)
Goodness, you've really, really got to hope it doesn't rain . . .
That's a LOT of extra long matches.
If they do have serious weather problems they reserve the right to shorten the early rounds of the men's doubles to best of three but this is only in extreme circumstances. If you think about it they have 19 courts and during the second week they rarely come close to using them all on any given day. There is plenty of capacity to play more matches.
