Week 24 - ITF $50k - Nottingham, UK - Grass

Bally & Naomi get the top 2 seeds ... the first 3 matches below are the first 3 matches in the draw:

L32: Elena Baltacha WR 217 v (1) Misaki Doi (JPN) WR 87 (CH 82 in Feb) - H2H 1-0, 7-6(4) 3-6 6-1 Toyota 75K+H 2009
L32: (Q) Emily Webley-Smith WR 457 v (Q) Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (THA) WR 283 (CH 149 in 2011)
L32: (WC) Samantha Murray WR 240 v Stephanie Vogt (LIE) WR 188 (= CH) - H2H 1-0, 1 & 5, Glasgow 25K QF 2012
L32: (WC) Jade Windley WR 373 v Ana Vrljic (CRO) WR 196 (CH 191 in 2008) - H2H 0-1, 0 & 3, Shrewsbury 75K 2012
L32: (WC) Lisa Whybourn WR 262 v Nudnida Luangnam (THA) WR 216 (CH 195 last month, lost to Sam in Toyota in December)
L32: (WC) Naomi Broady WR 345 v (2) Petra Martic (CRO) WR 147 (CH 42 last Jun) - H2H 0-1, 4 & 2, Linz WTA fqr 2011

Martic's rankings drop today occurred because despite points for winning last week's 75K going on, she lost RG last 16 points from last year.

Emily got a walkover. If anyone was due a bit of a luck, happy it went Emily's way.

Very sorry for Ms Rodionova, and hope she recovers from whatever ails her. But must agree with PaulM that, given the circumstances, I am glad her opponent was Ms Webley-Smith.

Q3: CARRERAS, Amanda (GBR) 4 313 lost to MIYAMURA, Miki (JPN) 6 410 3-6 2-6

Experience on grass finally made the difference. Amanda was winning about 45% of her 1st serves to Miki's 80%. Miki has played in more than a dozen grass tournaments. I hope Amanda enjoyed her first outing on grass and will give it a few more goes.

Pity. I would guess that Amanda will now give the Wimbledon qualifying WC play-offs a go.

*I'm not sure what's going on with the seedings with the draw on the LTA site, but they seem to be the matches anyway.

Martic is a tough ask for Naomi, she looked pretty nifty on her run to the title last week. I'd back an in form, fully fit Bally over Doi, but after last week I'm not so confident. Vogt is more comfortable on clay so that's an opportunity for Sam. Lertcheewakarn like grass, but Harriet Dart pushed her closely in qualies so there is a chance for Em.

Naomi will be second on the live streamed Centre tomorrow following JWH and preceding Sam/Jade. Jade will be first and Lisa third on court 1

Nicola & Lisa's opponents are seeded 3, none of the other teams above are seeded.

Naomi takes the second set 6-4.
Already a far better performance than I could have reasonably hoped for.
Can she find a way to win it?

But doing much better 5-5 in the second. Maybe it took time for her to adjust to that higher level. She's better when she's behind too.
