Week 24 - ITF $50k - Nottingham, UK - Grass

Presumably Bally ended up getting into the main draw without needing a wild card and her wild card went to Jade. So that's two lower-ranked Brits Amanda was passed over for ... (edit: ah yes, I see she hasn't played on grass before in ITF seniors or juniors!)

It will be very interesting to see how Amanda gets on in her first outing on a British grass court. Amanda looked as if she enjoyed carrying the olympic torch, I hope she enjoys herself as much here. A good result might encourage more visits so we get more chances to see her play.

Pippa must have been a late withdrawal she was down as a WCQ.

Either the left hand (LTA) doesn't know what the right hand (Nottingham) is doing or Jade has mysteriously disappeared, because this article published this evening (it includes details of the men's qualifying results today) suggests that Elena still needs her wild card:

Or maybe she also has a main draw wild card as there were at least two more spaces in the main draw due to withdrawals I think.

QR1: (wc) Isabelle Wallace UNR lost to (q2) Xu Yi-Fan (CHN) WR 265 by 7-6(3) 6-1
QR1: Nicole Peterson UNR beat Kyria Dunford UNR by 3 & 2
QR1: Francesca Stephenson WR 927 beat Danielle Konotoptseva WR 943 by 5-7 6-1 6-3
QR1: (wc) Anneka Watts UNR lost to (q5) Sara Sorribes Tormo (ESP) WR 355 by 1 & 3

QR2: Nicole Peterson UNR v (q2) Xu Yi-Fan (CHN) WR 265
QR2: Francesca Stephenson WR 927 v (q5) Sara Sorribes Tormo (ESP) WR 355

Nicole's QR1 win gets her a third counting score and hence a WTA ranking for the first time She now has 6 points and has got all of them by winning (i.e. none from WCs)

I stuck with the Pauffley vs Coupland stream (that has disappeared from the menu on Bet365) but that is now showing the match...

Alannah is playing much better now than she was at the start. Much more control over her big groundstrokes, but Amanda is tenacious - very quick, mixes in sliced forehands etc.

No, they are being played today, but unlike the men's event, there don't seem to be any live scores for the women's qualifying here.

It was a misprint on the OOP. It should have said Sunday 9th but they put Saturday 8th instead.

Carreras vs Griffin is underway. Amanda starts her campaign by playing dropshot return off of a decent 1st serve from Alannah.
