Great win for Dave and with them delaying the WC's for Wimbledon till tomorrow... i think this win, along with his recent 2 futures could be enough perhaps?! Although perhaps a QWC would be deemed sufficient

He has definitely showed top 250 form

I doubt he will get a MDWC but this win should secure him a QWC.

Coupland about to start his match on what looks like a deserted centre court.

George clung on in for most of the first set but was eventually broken in game 10 to lose the set 6-4

Coupland has a good serve but not much behind. He was doing great and then got broken just at the wrong moment, fluffing two easy volleys.

6-4 to Berrer

Super win for the lad!   Tough second round, though:

L16:  (WC) David Rice WR 501 vs (8) Go Soeda (JPN) WR 129 bleh

Well given that every unseeded player is due to meet a seed in either round 1 or round 2, drawing the 8th seed in the 2nd round is arguably the best draw Dave could have had.  It will be a step up from today's win but I don't see the need for the 'bleh'

Soeda took 3 sets to see off Bossel, who only just beat Cox in qualifying, so Dave should feel like he has a reasonable chance.

Coupland lost 4 and 3.

It was a good result for someone ranked 1000+ against someone ranked 100+

In fact, I though Coupland has some really good qualities. He seriously needs a good coach to drill a more solid technique into his ground shots and get the feet moving. Some hard work would take him a long way. If he were interested . . .

Think he's finished college now? He's done Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior.

So I hope he'll go full time pro next year and the rest of this.

Inside the top 1000 already is a pretty good start!

And holds again for 3-0. Have been taking a quick break - lovely to have to toggle among three different sets of ATP/Challenger live scores to follow GB players. A good sign.

Great start for Dave. He saves 4 break points in the opening game and then breaks to love.

*2-0
