Jamie has certainly boosted his Wimbledon wild card chances today. A win tomorrow and a good performance in the first round might just be enough given the lack of obvious alternate candidates.

Are the first lot of wildcards announced on Monday? I think they were last year from what I can remember? But he has certainly boost his chances although I think it is unlikely unless he can qualify and maybe win a round!

A good first round performance might just do it because I sure the LTA / AELTC will want to give at least 3, if not 4, to British players. A few years back the only gave 2 to Brits and were criticised for it.
watched Alex's match and really not sure what went wrong. he was good in the 1st set, but just seemed to go to peices in the 2nd with his serve all over the place. as you saw on live scores he put 6DF's in two games in that set :( 3rd set he was a bit better, but just made so many errors putting shots wide etc, or at one poiint a farily routine mid court put away volley under no pressure into the net. it looked like he might have got away with it as he ekked out 2 MP's the 1st i thought he had it, but put a forehand down the line wide when really he should have made it and on the 2nd Melo defended well coming forwards, altough i still think alex should have found a way.
Melo himself was better than i thought he would be, obvisuly came to the net any chance he got and played well overal, although it was still a match Alex should have won. i didnt stick around for the 2nd rd, but the fact he disposed of Weintrub so easily is a minor comfort i guess :(
On a side note it was probably the worst offictated match i had ever seen. the umpire was hopeless at the ammount of bad calls and missed lets that at some points the players were laughing. At one point Alex had a ball called out, which was clearly in, not even on the line. Melo agreed the ball was in, but apologised he couldn't give alex the piont as he was 5-1 down in the 1st set at that time. not sure in the logner run if any players defented more from the bad calls, possibly alex.

Re the wildcard issue: the fact is that he spent the majority of the preceding 12 months leading up to Wimbledon comfortably within the top 250. One presumes the wrist issue derailed him, so I would be very surprised if he doesn't get a wildcard.

not to mention he played very well against roddick on one of the main courts last year if my memory is correct
