Oli saves one bp with an ace but is eventually broken. I'll take a 3rd set tiebreaker now

3-5*

I suppose that looks like another reasonably encouraging performance from Oli but again he fails to get the result.

This thread is as good a place as any to note the continued progress of one Oli's peers.

On Monday morning Jiri Vesely, still only aged 19, will be ranked 105 in the world. This week he made the final of the Prostejov challenger, losing to Stepanek in the final. The field for this event was almost like an ATP 250 event. It had 4 top 50 players and at least 8 top 100 players (8th seed was ranked 87).

Alex off and running. 4-3 up in the first set, but Gregoire to serve.

At 5-4 up, all on serve, Alex manages to break Burquier, taking his first set point. 6-4 first set to Alex

A quick chance for revenge - of sorts - for Oli

R1:  Oli Golding & Alex Ward WR1071 vs Gerard Granollers & Guillermo Olaso (ESP/ESP) WR 640 hmm

The stats between the two are practically identical but Alex manages to break. 4-2 up in the second set.

Alex has had 5 bps, his opponent none - the key stat.

yes, fair point, although Kerr had 5 bps and JWH none and yet JWH won.

Anyway, Alex holds serve and wins 6-4 6-3, against the number 4 seed. Well done.
