RE: Week 23 - Challenger (€64,000) - Nottingham (grass) - doubles

Decent article, but seems to have a few facts wrong such as first outings at Calderstones - whereas they have already won a couple of tournaments together.

I'm guessing the Echo is trying to hype up a local meeting....

PS The Skupskis were brought up a stone's throw from Calderstones Park, which holds an invitational tournament every year before Wimbledon on the local parkland. The tournament did used to be competition to the ATP tour event at Nottingham until that was stopped and is now an invitational mainly for "seniors" and a few guests.

Stretch & Peers took the first set from Booty & Ram...
Erm, actually, following Jeff Stelling's post, elsewhere...

Jamie Murray & partner took the first set of their doubles SF, but are down in the second set
6-4 *1-5

The Skupski brothers are just getting under way in the other SF

SF:  (3) Jamie Murray & John Peers (AUS) WR 133 defeated (2) Eric Butorac & Rajeev Ram (USA/USA) WR 88 by 6-4 4-6  [10-7] biggrin

Nice one!

Meanwhile, on Centre Court, Ken & Neal lead the Ratis by a set (6-3).

The Skupski's make the final as WC's and it's 3/4 Brits in that final.
Excellent. Well done gentlemen

The doubles final is on Centre Court tomorrow: 3rd after 11:00, and, not before 14:00.

Just to confirm, since I don't see the complete result on here anywhere:

SF:  (WC) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski WR 616 defeated (4) Sanchai Ratiwatana & Sonchat Ratiwatana (THA/THA) WR (combined) 158 (though they're 78th in the race!) by 3 & 4 biggrin

Lovely to come home to such excellent news, though, as they were already a break up in the second set when I logged off, I'd've been quite shocked to find out that they'd blown it!

Has anybody yet attempted to gauge just how big a boost Neal's & big bruv's exploits this week will give to his doubles ranking?

Just tried to work it out. He is currently WR 547 and I think he will rise to approximately WR 400 if they lose the Final, WR 330 if they win.

Cheers, Steven.   Good to know.  Not sure I'd like to bet on the outcome of the final... no

Am I right in thinking that the elder Mr Skupski is committed to other partners throughout the rest of the GB "season" ... with Malisse this coming week, Hanley the week after that, and Malisse for Wimbledon? Too bad ... as thereafter GB has no tournaments of note to which they can be given WCs, does it. Or doesn't it?

Final:  (WC) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski WR 616 vs (3) Jamie Murray & John Peers (AUS) WR 133

So far the gap in rankings seems to be proving too great:  Jamie & JP have just taken the first set by 6-2.

Isn't Mr Skupski senior playing with Malisse for Wimbledon?

Really strong debut at Challenger level suggests that they have good potential as a team. Hope that they continue on upwards.

PS: If Malisse has gone solo for Queens, might the brothers get another WC into the next Challenger?
