Now 5-2 up and serving for the match.

IF she wins this match, it will be one more win required to get an official ranking either here or at here next event. Judging by the people she has beaten, very capable of getting into the top 700 very quickly.

I confess to not being so up to speed with the WTA rankings system, but from reading the Top 25 table, I think it requires wins in 3 separate "events" and not just 3 match wins to get on the rankings - or has Manisha had a win in another event prior to this.

I am sure that someone far more learned than me will correct me if I am wrong.

It's either wins from 3 events, or 10 points.

I believe it is points in three different events or 10pts in total.

Manisha has 4pts from Monzon and 4pts at this event in Egypt.

I knew I shouldn't have stuck my nose in ashamed.gif

I stand corrected.

Either way though - GO MANISHA !!

Why did I have it in my head that Manisha was one of our bagel girls?

Excellent news! Well done Ms. Foster.
From what I can gather she seems to be a very hard worker and down to earth, very likeable and professional. Those she works say with one voice how impressed they are. Just the sort of person everyone can get behind
I like that in the week of a big GB event she has gone elsewhere to try and earn points entirely on her own merit, rather than hoping for a QWC or ALT place to open up.
Interesting to see how she gets on against her QF opponent who is probably a step up in class again from the first two rounds.
Good luck!

It looks like she will be up against the Ukrainian 2nd seed, who i expect to be a class above her at the moment, but all the feedback from Soto seems very positive.

Manisha lost the first set tie-break 7-5.

Nothing in it. Against the number 2 seed . . .

Manisha FOSTER lost to (2) Anastasia KHARCHENKO 7-6, 6-3

Second set quite long and hard-fought. Great tournament by Manisha.

Good to see Manisha fit and getting back into form. I expect to see her ranked very soon and striding up the "top 25" table.

Yes, a very encouraging comeback, 2 QFs in 3 events. 1 more point will take her into the GB top 25 quite easily!

Which reminds me, on Monday, the GB no. 25 man will have 41 points, the GB no. 25 woman just 3, though Manisha will be 25th on 8 points if you ignore the WTA's 3-event rule.
