Mr Evans is in round 3 of a Challenger. No other British player is. Queens, like Wimbledon, undoubtedly would like to see more British players involved ... and winning. So one might not like the message it sends that if you are talented and don't work hard, you can still be given good things. But from a commercial point of view, one can hardly blame Queens. Apart from Mr Ward (J), no British player other than Murray has had anything like Mr Evans' results; nor could any other British player at present be assumed to have the potential to be competitive against a very strong field.

Dan was absolutely tremendous today and a 6-2, 6-2 win was fully deserved. His intensity and focus on court was absolutely fantastic, he wanted to win every single point and rebuked himself after every bad shot. An absolute delight to watch when he is playing like this.
As for his Queens wild card, the timing of the announcement indicates that it was a perfectly reasonable acknowledgement of his very good result yesterday. Perhaps those who feel that his attitude or behaviour should disqualify him from receiving such wild cards can point to recent bad behaviour or bad attitude to support there position because otherwise we might conclude that they wish to hold Dan's past indiscretions against him for his whole career.
In the last 2 months he has played a major role in a huge Davis Cup win, won his futures event abroad for the first time in his career and in the last two days played two exceptionally good matches where he has shown the kind of mental strength and intensity that has so often been lacking in the past. Playing like this he warrants the kind of support he is getting and it would be madness to withhold that support because of what has happened in the past. Now believe me, I will be the first to criticise him if he lets this newly found focus slip and I will happily call for his support to be withdrawn if he doesn't continue to apply himself. At the moment however, things are looking very good, long may it continue.

All of whom are in the other half of the draw to Dan. If he could beat Ebden he would have a decent shot of making the final.

And Matosevic completes the poor run for the seeds today: he lost to Mannarino by 4 & 3!
I would rather Brydan won. I am not particularly keen to support those lucky enough to have masses of talent who are not prepared to put in the effort.

Dan Evans 100% I don't care what flag Klein plays under i will absolutely not support a player who has racially abused opponents on court.

Is it still the case that the winner here (and at Notts 2 next week) will be offered a Wimbledon Wild Card? If so, those in the top 100 obviously dont need it but should increase the competitiveness of those outside......£20k+ this year on top of the usual winnings and it frees you up to play Eastbourne, quite an incentive!
Not yet, in my view. And (also in my view) shouldn't be put under that kind of pressure. Wimbledon qualifying, yes, though.
ashley hewitt? ed corrie?
don't be ridiculous. yes they have had some good showings at futures, but are they really ready to leapfrog challengers and play in an atp? probably not and that would damage there confdence and the media would have a field day.
Dan evans has got a track record of playing very well against higher level opposition (and in the recent past - DC) and has the potential to win a round or two at Queens, and at Wimbledon given a reasonable draw
