If Ms Rogers (whose ranking will be even higher after Roland Garros) were not in the draw, life might be looking better. As it is, it's a pity that so many of our good players (EWS, and whoever emerges from the Brown/Elliott/Whybourn/South matches) will have to play such a highly ranked player. Or perhaps she doesn't like grass, and we needn't worry.

Shelby Rogers has never played a senior WTA/ITF or junior ITF match on grass before, so one of the Brits needs to catch her cold on it! The best bets would appear to be Emily or Lisa, so hopefully one of them can take her out.

Unsurprisingly only one of the first set of matches on court is proving a close contest:

Naomi won 6-0 6-1
Sam won 6-2 6-2
Lucy won 6-2 6-3
Kyria lost 6-2 6-0
Sabrina lost 6-1 6-0

Mel leads Lisa 6-4 3*-3 in the other match

No surprises yet today:
Murray defeated Borthwick 6-2 6-2
Broady defeated McMinn 6-0 6-1
Brown defeated Elliott 6-2 6-3

Dunford lost to Dabrowski 2-6 0-6
Bamburac lost to Luangnam 1-6 0-6

Currently in progress.
Jade Windley is lost the first 5 games to Madison Brengle, but now back to *2-5
Mel vs Lisa is 6-4 *3-3
Silva and Ren just started *1-1

Lisa is serving to stay in the match against Mel - 4-6 *5-6 30-30

What a time for Mel to find some singles form and/or Lisa to lose it. Given that Mel seems to be on the way down in singles and Lisa seemed to be on the way up, I'd rather the latter won.

Didn't expect her to win, but surprised at the margin there nonetheless.

From what I can recall of Naomi Broady on grass, losing to her is not necessarily an argument against a Wimbledon WC (though there may be others)

Excellent work by Ms Webley-Smith. Well done to her and to Ms South.

For the sake of some of our women, wish there were a longer grass court swing.

Mel recovered well from losing the tight second set and prevailed 6-4 6-7 6-2 over Lisa.

I wonder if Mel just upped her game on the grass or if Lisa was feeling like a Wimbledon WC maybe hung on this (though of course she will presumably get another chance to make her case next week)
