Disappointing start to her grass season. I hope she drops down to the $50k next week and play qualies if she doesn't get into the main directly. She needs match time and wins, against anybody.
I don't see what benefit she would get from an early exit at Birmingham.
yeah not so good I hope she was better than on the clay in Paris. Playing a lesser tournament would help if she gets the wins. But Elena probably thinks she can cut it in Birmingham
I really dislike Mel's attitude, hit the gym.... match point, that wasn't even a hard drop shot to reach from her position. Yet she made no effort whatsoever to chase it down! The girl seriously needs to think about whether she should continue on the singles court, and if she's really serious about it, she needs to GET FIT!
Does she look unfit? Saw her at Wimbledon couple of years ago heavily bandaged on both legs -- looked like return of the Mummy! -- she was unfit in that match
To me she has ALWAYS looked unfit. She isn't even one of those players who has the extra pounds but still has the mobility, like a Kleybanova or someone. She always just looks lame and out of breath. I remember watching her a few times at Wimbledon, especially when she played players like Bondarenko or Johanssen... She could've easily won those matches. However, her lack of fitness cost her. The fatigue steps in on the big points and she throws in an error, or is unable to chase down a ball, which she could've easily returned had she been in shape!!! Out of all our players, she definitely frustrates me the most, she had the potential imo to at least be a consistent 50-75 player..... just never fully worked on the obvious flaws in her game!
