RE: Week 22 - Egypt F9 - ($10,000) - Sharm El Sheikh (Clay)

Safwat has fought back to lead *4-3 against Liam

Fitzy's score is still stuck on 0-3* 15-15. I predict it is a technical glitch and that when they sort out the problem, Fitzy will have won the next 6 games and the first set.

PS. Now you all know why I don't bet on sporting events !!

Looks like it must have been a lengthy MTO.

Fitzy's match now back under way and it is not good news. He is *0-4 down and has won only 5 points to far.

Scratch that. The scoreboard is now on "fast-forward" and it is suddenly *2-4 40-0 and the fightback is on.

Technical problems. I should have known !!

Liam lost the first set 6-3. The glitch on Fitzy's scoreboard seems to have corrected itself and it is now 3-4* so one break back.

Fitzy lost the first set 6-4, but is currently 4-0 up in the second

Liam 5-0 down in second set.

Disappointing for Liam. Having won the first 2 games, he then lost 12 of the next 13, losing 6-3 6-0

Always going to be tough against the top seed though.

Fitzy however, having lost the first 4 games, has fought back and has now evened the match up at one set all.

4-6 6-1

Come on Fitzy.

But not that tough!

I didn't expect Liam to win, that would be far too much to ask, but against a player ranked outside 300 to lose 10 games in a row (from 3-2* first set ) is quite spectacular. I notice again Liam managed no aces in the match. Perhaps his serve and his game are too lightwight for the pro game for the time being - Liam certainly cuts much more of a David Goffin figure than a Tomas Berdych!

Fitzy bagelled him in final set, but now has a really tough QF against last week's winner.

Maybe Fitzy is like me and doesn't like early mornings !!

However, from a slow start and 4-0 down in the first set, he went on to win 16 of the next 19 games.

4-6 6-1 6-0

Well played that man !!!!!

Great win for Liam & JWH! biggrin

Undeniably a huge upset. Looking at the disparity of their rankings wink

Come on now RJA, be fair.  Given Liam and JWH's form recently, this is an excellent result.  After all, they haven't won a tournament together for at least 4 days now. wink

It could've been over so much more quickly:  the boys served for the match at 5-3 in the second...
