hecstyle: diselo al juez arbitro, eso no es normal ni tolerable. Si necesitas testigos dimelo (= tell the referee about it, that's not normal or acceptable. If you need a witness, let me know)
hecstyle: @oli_golding well I don't think you will face them many times ever again on a futures/challengers main draw :D worst sportmanship ever
Nathii: Oliver Golding was assaulted today at Spanish futures. Details from our reporter @hecstyle when im home
Nathii: footsoldiersoft@oli_golding some doubles guy tried to kill him with a Ball and threatened later
So it sounds like what is being alleged is that one of Oli & Alex's opponents fired a ball at him (I'm assuming from the outrage being expressed that it wasn't just a Lendl-style body shot during a point) and then their coach threatened him later. I assume we'll find out more in the TA report when it appears.

AlexWard1990: Looking forward to our UFC tag team final tomorrow @oli_golding #bigmouth
Oli: @AlexWard1990 cant wait for it. What times the weigh in? Hopin we can finish it off in the car park tomoro! #campervanyobs
Every time Oli walks/talks his way into trouble (not that it sounds for a moment like this was his fault), I can't help thinking of the old Smiths track "Bigmouth Strikes Again" ... I hope there won't be any bludgeoning in any beds tonight!

I agree with the last sentiments. Just shut up and do your talking on the tennis court by focusing on every point and winning tournaments - which Oli hasn't been able to do at all this year. Being gobby and just making up the numbers in minor tournaments is not a great combination. Either start winning big time, switch off the gobby verbals, or ideally both!
Whatever he may have said which clearly riled the Spaniard, at least he has the ability to do so in pretty good spanish as well as english!
By the way, the aforementioned Senor Giraldi is still very much in the singles on the other side of the draw to Oli - if rankings prevail, unlikely they would meet in the final, but not impossible!!! And if you look at the OOP, Senor Giraldi is playing his singles QF immediately after Oli today, which means he will no doubt be watching from the sidelines, giving his "support" and "professional opinion" throughout. Awkward. Perhaps this isn't the end of the story after all.

I wonder if maybe the comments are directed at Oli due to some ill advised political comments on his twitter a while back and the Spanish guys have perhaps disagreed and maybe Oli has made a bit if a name for himself in this regard. He does seem to have a bit of a gob on him.
Regardless of this the behaviour is not acceptable and these jokers should be reported.
Well remembered re the Twitter comments, but I'd be very surprised if any of the players at this event even noticed them.
Certainly "you have a big mouth" can't be the most controversial thing anyone has ever said about Oli but nothing he could have said seems likely to have justified the rest of what has been reported. The TA reporter seems to be completely on Oli's side over what happened too, despite him being a Spaniard, or at least a person whose first language is Spanish.
Maybe the "big mouth" comment came because they thought the body shots were acceptable and hence that he shouldn't have complained to the umpire, but even if they did think that, again it doesn't justify what happened afterwards.
We could ask him to explain a bit more (and my guess is he would) but I'd much rather he put it behind him and got on with winning his matches today.

Indeed. For someone whose problems appear to arise more frequently from what he says than what he doesn't explain, mature silence and getting on with it sound like a very good way forward.
Even more interestingly, Senor Giraldi WON his QF, making a potential final between the Katie Price and Kelly Brooke of ITF tennis much more likely. Handbags at dawn! Hurrah!
Which one's which? LOL
From Hector (the TA guy who's there): "I have seen Oli playing really good in Madrid this week, I think he can take singles title but final would be against becker!if its vs giraldi in the final, i will be his bodyguard out there lol" "He (Giraldi) seriously has the worst grunting I've ever heard, even worse than larcher de brito's...yeah on court referee 4 sure just in case"

good to see that Oli has pushed on this week! it has been clear the last few weeks that his form has been improving! would be nice to see him take the title! Personally I think that far too many people are being too negative about him on here! nobody was there, so nobody can know exactly what happened unless someone asks im. As supporters of british tennis I thought we were supposed to SUPPORT the players. Far too much negative stuff gets said on here. Korriban, how do u think Oli would react if he saw what you write about him? All i have done since i started posting on here is defend him to you! i shouldnt have too, eveyone can have their favourites but some of the stuff that gets said on here about him is bordering on disgraceful. How about we get behind him and SUPPORT him, and unless we know all the details and all the facts, stop being so damn negative about him! I would quite like to find out exactly went on in the doubles though so if anyone knows him well enough do ask haha
Who cares what Oli thinks to be honest if he is to make it in the game he will encounter worse he doesn't and won't ever receive as much criticism as our only Grand Slam winner in decades and thats despite opening his mouth to spout off about opponents, prize money for losing and poor political opinions on Palestine on his twitter.
We support all British players regardless of what they say Klien for example but that doesn't mean we can't object to how they perform and act.
We would all love to see the young guys push on, watching a grand slam without a brit for the first time in nearly 20 years this week has probably made us all desperate to have more top 100 players.
