Oli * 4-5 Sielmann

Senor Sielmann, the unranked Spaniard with the Anglo-German name is playing his first tournament in 2 years this week.

In 14 previous attempts in his career, he has never managed to make it through qualifying. He was given a WC this week (well deserved I reckon!!) and won his first ever MD match to reach the L16.

No Break Points for Oli yet.

Does anyone know anything about Kevin Sielmann ?

He doesn't seem to exist on the ITF or ATP databases. I believe that this is his first ever tournament.

Is he the junior coach from the local club down the street ? The organiser's nephew ? If so, does Oliver realise this ?

Edit : just found a match played in 2010 . . .

Seems to me like this Sielmann lives by the motto:

If I don't succeed, try, try, try, try, try ..... how many previous attempts did you say Korriban ?.... try, try, try, try, try, .... am I there yet? .... try, try, try, try again

Did I miss one out ?

So sorry, Korriban - our posts crossed. Many thanks.

And glad (sorry?) to see that it wasn't some rising star I've never heard of . . .

Oliver Golding, get your act together !

He certainly needs to now as Sielmann takes the 1st set 7-6(7)

Having lost the first set, Oli comes roaring back to win 6-7 6-2 6-1

Now that's more like it.

Does that mean he specialises in assembling &, er, pasting together assorted bits of paper, string & matchsticks in his day job...?  wink

QF: (6) Oliver Golding WR 584 v Miguel-Ángel López Jaen (ESP) WR 733 (CH 171 in 2009)

MALJ lost his first 9 main draw singles matches this year but appears to have found some form this month, reaching SFs and QFs in Valldoreix and Vic.

Judging from the Twitter comments, the doubles match was not played in the best of sporting spirit

It all sounds somewhat bizarre. The unacceptable actions of the Spanish player targetted just towards Oli and the threats and comments from his coach/friend ("you have a big mouth") suggest that this was a reaction to something that was said before the match. This can never justify physical and verbal threats, of course, but there has to be an incident of some kind which fanned the flames. Guess we'll never know.
