He has done well. Grasping the chance given to him as a WC
Well done!
Re Nick Krygios. He was originally awarded a qualies WC as part of the RG/AO bilateral WC agreement. However when John Millman pulled out injured (he'd been offered the full WC "agreed" between FFT/Tennis Australia) Tennis Australia decided to "upgrade" Nick to a MDWC - a very smart move. He looks like quite a player; a very big serve keeps him competitive in most matches, even against (currently) better players.
If he enters the Juniors, he will be an overwhelming favourite - but will he even bother? With the AO Junior crown under his belt, a pro ranking in the 200s, and now a RG MD win (and the opportunity to play Cilic next round), not sure what the upside would be in playing more junior events at this point - he doesn't need the kudos (a MD win against a top 60 players beats anything he could achieve next week), he won't care about junior ranking points; and if he wanted he'd be a perfect WC candidate into Nottingham next week - far more useful to him ahead of Queen's/Eastbourne/Wimby.
