Good win, lets hope for something similar for Sam.

Should see a rankings career high for both girls when these points get added.

Samantha's eclectic form continues - another close one, at least she didn't win the first set in this one:

QF: Lisa WHYBOURN (GBR) 255 [5] vs. Jovana JAKSIC (SRB) [4] (CH: Current - H2H: 0-0 - Beat Naomi in R1, In good form, won last weeks $25K in Balikpapan, and a $25K in Poza Rica in April)

Doubles:
QF: Naomi BROADY/Teodora MIRCIC (GBR/SRB) defeated Ting LI/Chen LIANG (CHN/CHN) [4] 6-7(3) 6-4 [10-8]
SF: Naomi BROADY/Teodora MIRCIC (GBR/SRB) vs. (Q) Akari INOUE/Nungnadda WANNASUK (JPN/THA)

Well done Lisa. Pity about Sam, but Steven did indicate beforehand the recent results that might have made one wary.

Lisa has 35 points coming off post the French Open, which is when this week's points will go on so actually will very likely need to reach the final ( 34 points ) to keep about where she is in the rankings, and win the event ( 50 points ) to advance.

Sam has just covered the 8 points that she is defending.

Though both could still add points if they are in say the Nottingham 75K event during the second week of the French Open.

I'd like to think she has an excellent shot at going all the way this week, and I think it's really important for her career (and her peers) that she starts winning tournaments at this level. Not every week, but completing the job from time to time is what it's all about.

Apart from fairly new players to the men's and women's tours and the world of ranking points, I'm clearly pleased when our men and women reach QFs and SFs, but I can't get too excited about it (unless they beat VERY good players). Men and women who go on to win tournaments, however, says something else about them regarding consistency, fitness, will-to-win, concentration and talent........and that's definitely much more exciting.

Which was why a couple of tournament wins (rather than lots of points) for Neil Pauffley last year was very encouraging, Ed Corrie's 3 wins already this year, and Dan Evans ability to win (often with ease, when his mind in on it) tournaments for fun, and Kyle's 2 wins at just over 18 y.o. says something about their upside potential. Exciting. Tara has shown this year that she's definitely a multiple tournament winner, and Sam Murray at the end of last year. Lisa hasn't quite ticked the box yet for me, so I'd love this week to help her prove to herself that she's got that tournament winning ability.

Got a good feeling, but will be very tough.

In fact she lost 7 games in a row, before stopping the rot at 0-2 second set. But from 4-1 up first set, this is now a rearguard action.

Is Lisa a top 100 player or even top 150 player of the future? 7 games in a row lost against a similarly ranked opponent suggests probably not.

Shame: the draw is as open as open can be - whoever wins this match would be strong favourite for the tournament - still time for a comeback.

Not to be goes down 6-4 6-3. Bally was 100-1 against Voegle at one stage in live play should hit that instead. Disappointing for Lisa and all 4 girls who were comfortably all inside the main draws in these 2 tourneys.

Disappointing. Not the fact she lost - was always going to be close - but the run of 7 games lost in the middle of the match, which effectively decided the outcome.

Yes Lisa's ranking will go up as a result of this tournament; yes it's another career high - but whilst she has recorded some good wins, she rarely destroys opponents in early rounds and rarely wins tournaments. All good competitive stuff, but......

Her 19 year old opponent today (yet another Serb we've never heard of, but who looks to be one to watch) is ranked similarly to Lisa. The difference is that she has WON 7 $10k tournaments in the last 12 months, and 2 $25k tournaments.....and looks nailed on to win her third this week.

Who should we look out for?
