RE: Week 21 - WTA Premier ($690,000) Brussels, Belgium - Clay

That's brilliant for her - I think this will be her first WTA main tour appearance ever! She has never had a wild card into doubles at any of the main tour events in the UK and nor has she ever had a QWC for singles or doubles at Wimbledon, as far as I can tell.

Vogele is still playing her German League match with Anne on the same team. Both Bally and Nik are playing tomorrow, so slight advantage to Bally there.

120 points for a R1 win here in the doubles - has Nicola ever played in a tournament with a 120 points for the winner?

I was wondering about that too (but saving it for a tweet if she wins LOL) - based on the prize money levels of her previous events and the points that correspond to those levels on the current scale, the answer is ...

no!

The $75,000 ITF she played with Sarah Borwell in Phoenix is the biggest event she has played in so far and the winner of that event got 110 points.

Yet more outrageous behaviour from Yulia Putintseva reported by her opponent today, Coco Vandeweghe. She felt so incensed that she tweeted the Russian's precise words to her at the net, after Puntintseva won the match. Disgraceful. It's almost like the Russian is approaching the sport as "entertainment", creating a persona for herself like one of those pantomime baddies from WWF wrestling. This adds to the list of alleged disdemeanors including swearing, abuse to linespeople and opponents, screaming, racquet abuse, time-wasting and deliberately disrupting play, as well as smashing her AO (or US, I forget) juniors runners-up trophy. I'd love to see her try this with Serena or Maria!!! If the WTA don't sort this behaviour out immediately, I really think this will get out of hand, and someone will clock her......with some justification.

No disgrace for Nicola, considering the step up in class. 2,371 Euro's compensation for the effort is probably quite welcome! That's more than twice as much as for her $50K win last month.
A few more good results in $50K type events and she could get to do this regularly, like Liga Dekmeijere does very successfully.

R1: Nicola SLATER/Jennifer ELIE (GBR/USA) 577 lost to Sandra KLEMENSCHITS/Andreja KLEPAC (AUT/SLO) 226 3-6 2-6

Edit: Activeboard doesn't like the Euro symbol!

Not seen players wearing so many additional clothes since Laura unwisely started her season in Shenzhen

Bally had 15-30 but got careless, slicing a backhand wide then a 2nd serve return wide, allowing SV to hold to 30.

R2: BALTACHA, Elena (GBR) WC 206 v LEPCHENKO, Varvara (USA) 7 29

Elena has played Varvara twice before, losing both times.

Elena did win the first set both times in those losses - so some hope for sure! And Lepchenko seemed to struggle today!

You are correct, I was looking at Nicola's points for the doubles earlier - well, I did say I was bad at this no

Edit: Even got the correction wrong disbelief

Also, Bally's match is due to be streamed after Cepelova/Tsurenko finishes (they are 4-4 in set 1 currently)

Nicola & Jennifer lost the first set 3-6
There were only 5 points difference in the set though.
2nd set: 1-0*
