Now there's a surprise - Lucy holds to love to start the decider

Kontaveit is not that great I saw her playing Anna in Edinburgh and she was nothing special.

Kontaveit served for it at 2-5* but Nicola managed to get one break back: *3-5

Struggled to level the match and then could not take advantage in the third set

However a good week and should be proud of herself.

F: BROWN, Lucy (GBR) 803 lost to (Q) KONTAVEIT, Anett 435 4-6 7-6(6) 3-6

Excellent effort from Lucy, pushing the Top 100 tipped young Estonian far harder than anyone else this week folowing an excellent week.

Another few weeks like this should be the aim, as the talents clearly there.

Well done Lucy

I agree, if she had gone down in straight sets having been up a double break in the 1st and served for the 2nd, it would have been a bitter end to an otherwise very good week, but picking herself back up, and saving 3 match points to win the 2nd set tiebreak makes even the loss in the Final quite encouraging, since I doubt many of us expected her to push Kontaveit that close.

She should rise about 80 places, regaining the ground she lost last week plus a bit more.

I'm sure that if, at the beginning of the week, Lucy had been offered a 4-6, 7-6,, 3-6 loss in the final, she'd have bitten your hand off!

And, loss or no loss, it's lovely to get the cup, the flowers, the applause and all the 'finals' day trappings.

Good luck to her next week.
