Yes, he has singles potential, but unless he makes really big strides it is still potential for quite a financial struggle.
Whereas fellow Brits have shown what can be gained from doubles and allied to the LTA's ( in my view over ) supportive attitude to doubles, I can see why he may wish to really test how far he and Sean can go in the doubles arena.
I do think that it is a pity so many Brits ( Colin Fleming springs to mind ) have basically given up on singles without really fulfilling their potential, when I am sure for most singles was where their ambition really lay. A pity, but understandable, and ultimately they play for themselves, not such as us.
why doesnt David Rice concentrate more on singles this shows he has potential
Probably because he can play doubles at challenger maybe ATP level and have a good career whereas unlikely to realistically be good enough for challengersingles level.
He has a good partnership with Sean, but is a much better singles player than Sean, so i'm guessing Sean is pushing to concentrate on doubles.
As they are doing so well in the doubles, they sometimes struggle to make sign in for the following week's singles qualifying.
Money also talks. They probably earn more winning 10k/15K events and QF's in challengers than they would get for singles QF's week in week out at 10K level.
It looks like David is putting more emphasis on singles this week and next week and i can see him getting to the semi's here where he would come up against Peliwo. 6pts this week and 6pts next week would push him back inside the top 600, but with a CH of 408 i would like to see him play more singles and possibly have to split up the partnership with Sean.
Already 9 minutes and counting since the last point at the end of set 1. Clearly a MTO. But it's a very long one.
If they continue, hope this won't completely and utterly break David's concentration and momentum.
Now *2-0 David second set (broke the Canadian to love) with 8 games in a row. After already having had an MTO (we must presume), suspect this guy will retire any time soon.

NB as poor David has the rather dubious honour of recently being promoted to one of my new 'pet faves' (see previous post), without knowing anything about the man (!), does anyone know if he goes by David, Dave, Davy, Ricey (please no) ?
Josh won the first set 6-1 too
