Kyle's win today should put him into the GB top 10 in 2 weeks time
It is going to be touch and go. He does have 2 points to come off on 20 May from Newcastle last year so he may still be 1 point behind Alex Ward. But it is only a matter of time - 24 hours if he can take out Melzer in the semis.
Hoping to see him even higher though by the end of the year. Is top 5 out of his reach ?
Yes I checked he had less than 18 tournaments but missed the 2 points coming off so agree he will be on 79 points - still hopefully I am just 1 day too early!!

Actually I reckon Kyle needs to reach the final. At the moment his SF will take him to 79 points in the 20/05/13 rankings, still 1 short of Alex Ward's total of 80.
Kyle : 57 + 18 ( from last week ) - 2 ( from Newcastle this week last year ) + 6 ( so far this week ) = 79.
Sorry, I keep ongoing records looking forward a couple of weeks, so it was already on my mind
Edit : Ah, I see Bob is thinking similarly.

Once bitten, twice shy. Made that mistake myself not so long ago of not looking past the current week for points to come off.
I would think he will be higher by the end of the year, eg. ahead of Alex, Dan S and Josh M. I would though like to think that there will be 5 other players in the top 300 at year end, and that may be out of reach for Kyle. Would be great though if he could get that high.
One may hope that Mr Edmund will be emboldened by this victory to undertake new challenges and scale new heights. (Phrasing and boldface type a transparent excuse to say that "to put in boldface" is the phrasing I would use to get around the various controversies. Those are, of course, Con-TRAH-ver-sees, and not CON-troh-ver-sees).
QF: Kyle Edmund WR 511 defeated Mitch Krueger (USA) WR 747 by 5 & 0 - easy peasy!
*****
SF: (1) Gerald Melzer (AUT) WR 237 vs Kyle Edmund WR 511
Wow, first straight sets win of the week and first straight sets win against Krueger in 4 attempts! Melzer is at his career high, so will be tough, though many of his points have come from events with realtively weak fields, e.g. 56 from Futures in Algeria, Rwanda and Burundi, some more from Challengers in Uzbekistan, etc.
In fact, 7 of his 10 Futures singles titles have been won in Burundi (3), Rwanda (3) & Uganda (1) but he has won this event in Orange Park for the last two years and now has a 13-0 record in singles here, only ever losing one set, to Ryderstedt in the 2011 semis!

There's an article on one of the German (or maybe Austrian - just noted language, not location) sites about the match ... points out just how well Melzer has done on this American swing. Best of luck to Mr Edmund.
