Well done James, it's great to see him win a Futures singles title at last
He might not be the most popular person with the Japanese at the moment, having beaten their whole contingent here (the 6th, 4th & 1st seeds) in straight sets in successive rounds to take the title
This win will see him rise nearly 100 places to around 530 on Monday week, taking out last Novembers career high of 563.

Interesting that a lot of the congrats to James on Twitter are mentioning how hard he works - I assume therein lies the answer to why he is getting Team AEGON funding.

Yes, this was something that I speculated about last week and it is perfectly understandable. Most people will naturally want to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who is doing everything they can to make it in the game.
It is well known that James has a great attitude on and off the court. I have attended several British futures over the last couple of years and on at least two occasions James has been on the practice court a day or two after he has gone out of both singles and doubles. In contrast most players head home as soon as they are out. I have also seen him on the practice court after losing a match.
