Luke finally breaks for the win. 6-4 6-7 6-4. Well done. Thought he had blown it after getting broken in the long game at *5-4 in the second.
Brilliant effort by Luke who really had to dig deep to win this overcoming a slight hamstring problem in the process. He could have won in straights, there was an epic game at 5-4, but to be fair the Aussie really stepped it up during that stage of the match.
... and ending the Croatian's 10-match Brit-bashing streak in these Futures
Didn't see this match but Leon said it was of very high quality and certainly Ash impressed me so much yesterday that he was always capable of ths result. Also Coric really benefitted from the dead courts in Bournemouth to get the win there so maybe his form is not as rock solid.
Re The Ward O'Mara match, Ward had a injury that kept him out last season which return in the match yesterday. Saying that, I heard they are good friends, hence why Ward might not have wanted to retire.
Yes reoccurence of his knee injury from last year.
Suprised to see Marcus drop the first set, but he has been very inconsistent all year and cannont string perfromances together for several weeks at a time.
Dan Evans is about to win, Luke is still fighting.
Jonny played exceptionally well and has really impressed me this week so Marcus had to play his best to turn it around.
Phil - no pressure and perhaps the question may be more relevant towards the end of the week, but who have you seen this week who has the ability to make significant progress up the rankings?
QF: (1) Daniel Evans WR 327 v Ashley Hewitt WR 652 QF: (3) Daniel Smethurst WR 376 v (5) Julien Obry (FRA) WR 428 QF: Marcus Willis WR 564 v (4) Jason Kubler (AUS) WR 401 QF: Luke Bambridge WR 798 v (2) Axel Michon (FRA) WR 334

Putting me on the spot !!!
I would say Ash has the biggest potential upside from his current ranking( ranked at 700ish and playing solid top 500 tennis ), obviously Jonny and Luke are just beginning their journeys and in different ways have also impressed me.
Overall its been very good, maybe only Liam is going through a difficult period at the moment, but I know he has it in him to turn that round at an instant, and wouldn't be surprised to see it happen in Egpyt.
Leon I believe is a very positive influence for all the players which bodes well going forward. I also think alot of the players have an extra spring in their step because of Kyle's win at the weekend.
But saying that its very tough to rise up the rankings say into the top 200 and stay there because the overall standard of Mens tennis even at this level is very high.
Doubles results in so far affect the bottom half of the draw:
QF: Neil Pauffley & Matt Short 1767 defeated Clay Crawford & Evan Hoyt UNR by 2 & 3 QF: Scott Clayton & Toby Martin WR 2167 "defeated" (2) Dan Smethurst & Alex Ward WR 973 by a walkover
ergo
SF: Neil Pauffley & Matt Short 1767 vs Scott Clayton & Toby Martin WR 2167
QF: (1) James Cluskey & Gero Kretschmer (IRL/GER) WR 659 defeated Richard Gabb & Jonny O'Mara UNR by 6-2 4-6 [10-8]
Richard & Jonny came within a whisker of dumping out the top seeds, but sadly, didn't quite have the quality in the final third, as a footie player would say!
****
Here's hoping the tyros can go one better :
SF: (1) James Cluskey & Gero Kretschmer (IRL/GER) WR 659 vs Luke Bambridge & Cameron Norrie UNR
If Leon has had the impact on Evo we all want, then i can see him flying through these 2 weeks of futures. I see he's not down for Roland Garros qualifying, has this been mentioned anywhere else?

Simple explanation for that - he wasn't ranked anywhere near high enough to get in.
