I see what you say RJA though I guess it would be a setback for what hopes / expectations Evo might have of being selected to play Davis Cup against Croatia on clay. Anyway, let's see how Sweden goes.
I don't think it makes any difference to his Davis Cup prospects. If Murray and Ward are available they will play, if one of them isn't then Evo is highly likely to get the nod regardless of his clay results.
Luke lost 6-3 in the final set, but another good week and he must be moving nearer 700 than 800 in the rankings now.
Actually not. His QF points here and at Edinburgh don't even cover the SF points he was defending from Edinburgh last year so he will actually drop down a bit, albeit hopefully not for long.
Impressed by Dan Smethurst. I know he was the slight favourite but he's only ranked 50 places higher and Obry's CH (274) from only last year is 60 places higher than Dan's. So well done to him for a very comfortable win.
Excellent win by Marcus. I don't know the man and I gather from this forum that he's very up and down but I see from Steven's great table that he's gone up about 400 places in the last 4 months, to a lifetime best (last week) so that's pretty brilliant, inconsistent or not, and one can't ask much more.
Luke must have played a super match too. With Axel being five years older and about 500 places higher up in the rankings, it's a great result from Luke (still very young) to get so close.
Very impressive play by all our boys today, even in defeat Evo didn't play badly. Was a bit late to watch much today, but Ash's ball striking has lifted several notches even during this week. Smetty also stepped it up today. Luke fought very hard as well but Michon is a class player so nothing lost in defeat. Another great comeback from Marcus, so all in all very very encouraging stuff.
Dan S is undoubtably ( and especially relative to other Brits ) at his best on clay, so I was hopeful that he would get the result there.
Marcus reportedly found new focus and got much fitter in the close season ( he had in many ways disappointed in his early senior years after being a strong junior ), and has fairly new private support. Has a very ambitious target for year end of top 250, though has been a bit inconsistent after a great start to the year with injury niggles reportedly playing a part.
Been a good couple of weeks for Luke, and although as RJA indicates he will in the short term drop outside the top 800, encouraging for the rest of the year.
Marcus was not great in Edinburgh was beaten by Gabb. Marcus has a big game and on grass could be really good. But as someone said on here depends which Marcus turns up. My brother spoke to Marcus's coach in Bath earlier this year and the coach thinks Marcus has got great potential if he works harder
marcus has always had great potential... the problem, which his 'coach' mentioned and is the same with a lot of our boys (and girls), is that he doesnt work hard enough on a consistent basis. he is talented enough to make finals and win these tournaments much more regularly, but hasnt seemed to have the drive and hence has his good weeks and his bad.
its a shame when you see someone who could be doing so well not putting 100% in. its almost as if those with more natural talent tend to work less hard- maybe they feel they dont need to when they compare themselves with their peers?
having said that, i know willis has been more vocal this year about giving it a 'real shot' and training harder... i feel like he needs to mature more as a person and although his intentions may be good, he doesnt have the mental strength to actually knuckle down until he is a bit older- so fingers crossed he stays in the game for another couple of years and hopefully we will see some more consistent results in the mean time leading into this predicted high rise in ranking!
SF: Neil Pauffley & Matt Short 1767 defeated Scott Clayton & Toby Martin WR 2167 by 1 & 4
This is bizarre - ITF livescores still has the above result but the ITF and ATP drawsheets both say Scott & Toby won 2-6 7-5 10:4 and Friday's OoP has Scott & Toby playing in the Final

Jonny O'Mara confirms that Scott & Toby won in 3 sets after saving match point, so the ITF livescores result and stats must be complete fiction!
Hence:
SF: Luke Bambridge & Cameron Norrie UNR beat (1) James Cluskey & Gero Kretschmer (IRL/GER) WR 659 by 6-3 7-6(5) SF: Scott Clayton & Toby Martin WR 2167 beat Neil Pauffley & Matt Short 1767 by 2-6 7-5 10:4
FINAL: Scott Clayton & Toby Martin WR 2167 v Luke Bambridge & Cameron Norrie UNR

I don't think you're the one who should be apologising, SC!
I could almost understand it if the win had come up and then perhaps a call was overruled and the system couldn't cope when the match carried on, but then the 1st set score would surely have been correct. Equally, if the incorrect scoreline had been from another match and they'd put the wrong names into the system, but it doesn't look like that happened either.
