Not a surprise to me seeing Ashley beating Dan. Ashley has a big game and I think definitely quickly into top 500 People were surprised about him early in the year, however I saw him in Glasgow last year and many of the players could not handle his serve and pace
Good stuff by Ashley, though pity as well that it stopped Evo in his tracks.
Ashley will certainly now enter the top 600, and that now looks a good chance of 20 Brits in the top 600 on Monday week with Marsalek a possible 21st if he wins his QF today.

I don't think these two clay events (here and Sweden next week) are of much importance for Evo's year. I get the feeling that he is only playing them in case he is called upon to play the Davis Cup tie. The grass court season will probably the one that either sets him up for a very good year or leaves him facing another year of the same old story.
So while he would no doubt have liked to have done wll here I don't think he will consider todays defeat to be a serious setback.
SF: Neil Pauffley & Matt Short 1767defeated Scott Clayton & Toby Martin WR 2167 by 1 & 4
This is bizarre - ITF livescores still has the above result but the ITF and ATP drawsheets both say Scott & Toby won 2-6 7-5 10:4 and Friday's OoP has Scott & Toby playing in the Final
Definitely bizarre! And I'm equally . I had both the ITF live scoreboard & bet365 running. The latter briefly showed the scoreline I posted, but as I closed the it after what I assumed was the end of the match, I noticed that Scott & Toby had mysteriously won the second set & the match had gone to a MTB. As the ITF was still resolutely attributing victory to Neil & Matt, however, I thought no more of it & then became too busy to spend time investigating!
Apologies for any confusion I may have caused. It certainly wasn't my intention to mislead.

I see what you say RJA though I guess it would be a setback for what hopes / expectations Evo might have of being selected to play Davis Cup against Croatia on clay. Anyway, let's see how Sweden goes.
Dan Evans i would have expected to be closer, but Ashley seems to have run away with it.
Marcus is an enigma and has turned over a very decent player on clay - you just don't know which Marcus will turn up
Dan went to form, but another who is not very consistent
Luke is the one who is suprising me - it looks like he will get beat now, but Phil suggested he had a slight injury and he has pushed the second seed very close. It bodes well for the future.

Considering Evo had a calf injury two weeks ago and was a doubt for this event, playing three days in a row probably caught up with him.
