RE: Week 19 - WTA Premier ($4.03M) Madrid, Spain - Clay

Time for a break. These are really good draws for the standard of event and its just not working at the moment. Hope she can get into this.

2*-4 now, so at least pulled 1 game back.

Your wish is Laura's command!
She breaks to offer a glimmer.
*2-4

Double fault count up to 4 already. Don't fancy Laura's chances.

And gives the break back with 2 DFs! I despair, I really do.

At 4-2, the pressure is beginning to swing towards Rybarikova. So Laura gives her a DF to start the game, instant boost for her opponent. Loses the next point, and her opponent is on the verge of breaking after only winning 1 point in the game. Then Laura serves another DF, to go 0-40.

Its just terrible matchplay at the moment. This is going to be a comfortable straight set loss, clearly.

Laura's "superstar of the Future" twin, Sloane Stephens, lost yet another match against a far lower ranked player today in straight sets - it's not just our Laura who amazes and baffles in equal measure - wonder what an earth has happened to Sloane?

Well, that player was Hantuchova, hardly a slouch, and 53 in the race - so playing to a higher level than her current ranking.

You'd of expected Sloane to win, but I still wouldn't bet against her going quite deep at the French.

Since AO exposed her to the wider American audience, Sloane has had a lot of new demands on her time from media (Oprah, Ellen etc), she's mentioned she's finding the balance hard to get right.

Well done, Laura, on getting out of that game, 6 - 5 *

Maybe foolish to write anyone off the way some British results have gone over the last few days and particularly in a WTA match.
