Based on Helen Parish's career best wins table that is the best win by a British Woman in 30 years (unless Jo Durie had another win against the WR4 after 1983)
Now some of us have previously said that we thought in many ways clay suited Laura's game and she has had decent results on the red stuff, and I know it was pointed out that Aga is not at her best on clay, but I was still not expecting that !!
I would be interested to know how much Laura feels she had been effected by her chest unfection issues over previous months and / or what else has suddenly produced this performance. No doubt, she gaimed real confidence from her R1 win, but that was still really moving up a level. Decent serving must also help general confidence, but still.
Would be great if she could get a French Open and / or Wimbledon seeding. But just great in itself to see how much more damage she can do here.
Wow great win, I have to admit I was watching the rugby whilst following livescores, would have been better off watching this !!
Seems that the conditions really suited Laura, unlike last week and Agadoo had a really bad day at the office. Only 3 doubles, I'm waiting for TTT to update with now 125 dfs for the season, haha. Loves being the underdog and now doesn't fear beating a top player. Will be fascinating to see how she gets on against Ana( probably her) as she is playing well, but a matchup Laura shouldn't fear.
Only snag was I put a bet on the handicap and not at 6/1, but apart from a shocking last play in the rugby this has been one top day.
How odd that nobody now seems to be mentioning the stream of recommendations for Laura to take some time out after Oeiras, drop to Challengers, etc (pages 5 & 6 of the Oeiras thread contain the gruesome evidence, at least until the editing starts).

Happy to be proved wrong on that count. All that was lacking from Laura's game was a bit of confidence from getting a win. I thought she might have a better chance of getting wins at a lower level tournament but she has achieved it on the big stage which is much better and she might now be stronger for coming through it. I never suggested that she shouldn't play Madrid though (mainly because it's a compulsory tournament)
