RE: Week 18 - ITF $10K - Edinburgh, UK Clay

Jade was down as an entry, must have been a late withdrawal, hence the lack of GB seeds.

We'll be lucky to see one GB girl through, unless it's GB vGB(qualifiers to be completed and placed)

Indeed, that's a horrendous draw, with 6 of the 9 Brits already in the main draw getting seeds in R1. no

I have just found out from Jade on Twitter that there is a very positive reason for her late withdrawal, which is that she has made the cut for the 50K+H in Johannesburg next week so wants to get ready to fly out there and no doubt doesn't want to risk going deep in Edinburgh and missing the plane! It's good to see a few Brits have entered here - yet another South African event with a low cut relative to the prize money on offer, with a handy 12 points for a R1 win.

That's good news.
Hopefully the appearance in the Johannesburg 50K+H can do for Jade, and the other Brits, what the similarly under-subscribed 50K+H event in Kazan last summer did for Tara.

It would be nice to see some form from Sabrina B today at last.

She is 1-10 in ITF singles for 2013, with her only win in 3 sets against an unranked Brit.

All 10 of her losses have been in straight sets, with no TBs among them, and these included 5 bagels.

She's been on the top 25 table for quite a long time now with a ranking in the 800s, so you would have thought she would claim the odd win or three. Against a lower ranked player again today, so must surely be a good opportunity. Come on!

I don't know Sabrina but I know the French girls well. Jessica Ginier was one of the top French juniors and reached an adult career high of 441 in 2011. She's known as a determined, tenacious player, not one with particular ferocious weapons, and has played a large number of matches this year, trying hard to get bak to her best.

Laetitia is a petite girl, was previously French national champion in the 15/16 category and has played less but has been making very good progress and beat Jessica easily a couple of weeks back.

Chloe Paquet is a very tall, physical, strong player who, still being only 18, is being talked about quite a lot in the French press. But Pippa is playing very well, good luck to her.

I'll be following the results with interest - hope all the girls have a good match.

Eden Silva a set and a break up on her much much more highly ranked opponent. Very good performance. But fitness and endurance perhaps an issue in some previous matches against older players, so let's she can keep this up longer. Already the break has been pulled back. Good luck

She lost set 2, but it's 4-4 final set, so already a very good effort - no signs of weakening compared to other sets. Keep going!

Looks like the other Sabrina (Federici) lost her FQR match then got in as a lucky loser for König and has had to play again - she is 2-6 2-4 down to 4th seed Daniels. That's 7/8 seeds playing Brits in R1 then

... come to think of it, she might have won her FQR match. Doesn't look like she'll win this one though - Daniels about to serve for the match.

Looking at the draw there is a strong possibility we might lose 13/14 brits in the first round. Good chance for Katy Dunne to get more points though.

Unfortunately Eden has lost 6-4 in final set.

Pippa is a set down, Lucy is with serve early on in the first set and Sabrina lost in straight sets.

Normal service for Lucy, who keeps getting into final sets and then not being able to cross the winning line. 4-0* down
