RE: Week 18 - ITF $10K - Edinburgh, UK Clay

Despite today's loss, Katy will rise over 100 places and into the top 1000 for the first time on Monday week.

Katy was favourite with the bookies which did seem a bit odd, but still a great week, probably a little tired.

Anna fighting back and I can see her winning this in 3.

That seems a bit unfair by the bookies to Katy. She's had a brilliant week and must be thrilled (and a bit tired!) but I can't see how she'd have been favourite.

Many congrats to her - she's really got something to give her some impetus for the future.

Anna had a break point at 5-2, but couldn't take it and then went 40-15 on her own serve before getting broken 5-4* now

5-5 now ... and 0-40 on Anna's serve, but she saves all 3 bps and then another to go 6-5* up.

She lost 7 of the first 8 games and in fact was one or more breaks down early in all 3 sets.

Fantastic win for Anna and she is now regularly beating players ranked well above her. Potential to get back to 400-500 ranking fairly easily on this form.

That was another fighting performance from Anna. I watched her fight back against Gradjdek in Bournemouth and she seemed able to absorb the power of her opponents strokes and just maintain a very constant pressure that kept her opponent on the run. It would be good to see her getting back inside the top 300 before too long and with her fighting spirit who knows, she could just about make it by the end of the year.

Tara finds out what it's like to be a mad fan:

"Dear Jesus @anna_smith1488 #shaking well done for your first finals of 2013 though!!! #winning"

Anna:

"11 match points I do believe it was @TaraMoore92, if you think you were nervous then what about me #inneedofastiffdrink"

I had very low expectations for this week - unkind looking draws and the absence of Jade - but in the end we have had some truly gritty and incredibly encouraging performances! I'm not sure where Anna is planning on playing next but the signs are good for the rest of her season. Katy should be heading into the Grade A junior event in Italy and the junior French Open brimming with confidence. Also some encouraging wins earlier in the week for Danielle and Maia.

Doubles final just started, with at least one guaranteed British champion.
Jess & Anett currently up on Anna & Fran by *2-0
