I am not such a big follower of the doubles but do I see that the "Skupski" brothers are playing together here ?

L16: (1) Neal Skupski/Ken Skupski WR 762 v Pietro Liociardi/Antonio Mastrelia (ITA/ITA) WR 2241

Here's a bit of a turn-up for the books:

R1:  (1) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski WR 759 vs Pietro Licciardi & Antonio Mastrelia (ITA/ITA) WR 2227
R1:  Oliver Golding & Denys Mylokostov (UKR) WR 1529 vs (2) Enrico Fioravante & Cristian Rodríguez (ITA/COL) WR 1000

I'm not sure which bit is a turn up for the books, but Neal has said it's his first time on red clay.

Ken, meanwhile, is just complaining a lot about what a ****hole Naples is - I've never been there but my sister has and his impression seems to match hers exactly!

Clearly Ken is trying to help Neal up the rankings but I hope that doesn't mean the latter is going to end up with as many partners as someone else's brother ... of course, in this case it is quite plausible that the long-term plan is that they play together permanently once their rankings are closer together.

The appearance of the Skupski brothers in a Futures tournament together. wink

Visited Naples on a day trip from Vico Equense, on the other side of the Bay of Naples, in (I think!) the early 90s & I'm inclined to agree with Ken & your sister.  In some respects, it may have been even worse then, as the bin men had been on strike for some time & there was rotting rubbish piled at just about every street corner!

Neal has some way to go before he's anywhere near catching up with Ken:  he was 759th in this morning's rankings compared with Ken's 62nd! wink

I thought Neal was 697 in the doubles rankings this morning? (I remember putting it on the career highs table)

Your point about the big ranking difference still stands, obviously, but seeing them play a Futures event together is not that big a surprise given that they won Preston Futures together earlier this year.

You're quite right!  I was getting mixed up with their combined ranking!

They got off to a bit of a rocky start, but have just bagged the first set by 7-6(1).

Given the elder Mr Skupski's ranking, the younger Mr Skupski would only need to get to about 400 to enable them to start getting main draw for weaker Challengers, no?
