RE: Week 18 - Challenger ($50,000) - Tallahassee, FL, USA (Clay)

I turn my back for a couple of minutes & all of a sudden, they're 5-2* in the second... disbelief  wink

Bugger!  The pesky Yanks break back in the ninth game as they're serving for the second set:  5-4*. hmm

Switching to ATP live scores, which always seem to be behind bet365 (which seems to have got all screwed up again! furious ):  second set goes to a tie-break, which the boys lose 7-9 after spurning a set point. cry

SF:  (1) Austin Krajicek & Tennys Sandgren WR 295 defeated (4) David Rice & Sean Thornley WR 417 by 6-4 7-6(7)

At least they appear to have given the Yanks a bit of a run for their money &, with a bit of luck, they'll have learnt from that match.

They were by no means outclassed. I thought they were the better team, though Krajicek was probably the best single player.

Dave & Sean can clearly operate at this level in my opinion and only get stronger if able to gain more exposure to it.

Yes, they are clearly Challenger level players. Hope they do well in the upcoming string of futures they're playing (which make sense, given lack of Challengers and need to come back to Europe) and that they then continue to do well in the grass season.

I agree. For what it's worth, I thought they played very well as a team - good luck to them.

Sorry to be out of the loop but does anyone know if Rice still plays singles ? Or is he completely concentrating on doubles ?

NB not really connected to this thread and didn't know where to put it so just a quick passing thought for the family of Brad Drewett, the ATP chief who died yesterday at age 54. Carlos Moya gavea nice tribute when he said:

"Probably the best ATP president, the closest to the players and the one who has achieved the most for the players in the past 30 years."

RIP

David and Sean have entered a 10k singles in Greece for wk 20 - David has already made the cut for the main draw.

It would be nice if both could improve their singles ranking so they can get into quali's at challenger level.

I don't suppose it'll be any consolation to Sean & Dave, but they lost to the eventual champions:  the Yanks beat Greg Jones & Peter Polansky in the final by 1-6 6-2 [10-8].

They tend to make the qualies draws for challengers anyway. The problem is that they can't always get there in time if they are still playing doubles at the tail end of the previous week.
