Good effort so far against the world #96. Was JoKo really such a bad pick for FedCup against someone ranked in the 200s that a semi-fit Bally was preferred? This is clay isnt it?
Hope she completes the job today, still a tough ask.
With the form and fitness issues, all I for one ever thought was it was not a straightforward choice though I could certainly see arguements for picking Bally based on known info and given we didn't know quite a lot. My issues were with the statements that selecting Bally was absurd.
Maube Jo would have got the job done, maybe she wouldn't of, and I actually don't recall much suggestion that she would have been a bad pick.
I don't see what it really does a week later to say...oh look !
Just good to see Jo in seemingly better form, especially coming out of the Fed Cup.
Jo has lost the last 6 third sets she has played so it was always going to be tough to close out this one against a top 100 player. 52 points played in the first 5 games of the final set with Jo saving 5 bps before she was broken but Putintseva then made it 4 games in a row to go from 0-2 to 4-2 in the 3rd. Jo didn't give up though and has now got it back to 4-4*

Great match Jo!!! Great win, especially from 1 set down. 2 hours and 54 minutes, so that last set must have been very hard work. Impressive. Most impressive.
Must be chances against Foretz, then a clay court specialist in the FQR.
Neogenic on Twitter is saying this is JoKo's 5th top 100 scalp but the first time she has beaten a top 100 opponent on the devil dust. I haven't checked yet, but no particular reason to doubt them.
