Didn't really expect that from Naomi, but if she is on her game then she is capable of beating much higher ranked players. Looks like she was on her game today. Lets hope she keeps the same sort of form up and we have an all GB QF.
The Thai WCs are causing upset after upset (#2 seed Rogowska the latest, where the scoreline suggests she started superbly, then slowly began to wilt), which presumably means conditions are towards the limit of what we might consider playable - brutal heat and near 100% humidity.
As I said earlier, our girls playing each other rather than unranked/lowly ranked Thai WCs in round 1 was potentially good news for overall ranking points, because anyone not as fit as the proverbial "butchers dog", fully rested, and almost over-hydrated is going to be found out big time here - even very good players. Fitness and endurance will almost certainly trump talent and skill in these conditions - which may have been the catalyst for the endurance training below.
Good to see both Naomi and Lisa get the wins. Not sure who will come through their QF - Naomi leads the H2H and has had the more comfortable route through so far (score wise at least), but Lisa's a fighter.
The ninjas march on: QF: Tara MOORE/Melanie SOUTH (GBR/GBR) [4] defeated (WC) Napatsakorn SANKAEW/Nungnadda WANNASUK (THA/THA) 6-2 7-5 SF: Tara MOORE/Melanie SOUTH (GBR/GBR) [4] vs. Misa EGUCHI/Akiko OMAE (JPN/JPN) [2]
