RE: Week 17 - Great Britain F9 ($10,000) - Bournemouth (Clay)

Slabba beat Gabb 2 and 3, not surprising on this surface.

Cox took the first set

Not surprised to see Fitzpatrick beat Glynn, he is a step up in class from the qualies - still great to see him qualify for main draw though.

Hope to see him there on a more regular basis before too long.  Sounds like a good prospect.

At 4-4 in the first set, there was a monster game on the Carter serve.  Seemed to be about 10 deuces or more before Carter prevailed.  By that time, they had each won about 36 points.  It seems as though that game must have broken Malik's spirit as it appears he only won about 6 points after that.

I'd expect Dan, Fitzy, Slabba And Ashley to go through comfortably. Jack and Toby have difficult matches, but Jack is playing well enough to cause an upset.

If Slabba wins GB are guaranteed a semi finalist.

Dan and Fitzy have awkward quarters, with Dan potentially against the top seed, (although the top seeds recent form is poor and mainly on hard courts )

Also Jack is now knocking on the door of getting into the GB top 25, but it's getting harder to break in as Tom F and Ashley are picking up points, so it won't be long before you have to be ranked inside the top 700 to get on Steven's table.

Jack won't need to cause an upset. The Spanish 8th seed has lost to 16 year old Borna Coric.

That being said Coric is a brilliant prospect. I watched him play at Chiswick last year and even at the age of 15 he looked like a really good player. Also seems like a very nice lad and lot more mature than some of the Brits who are a few years older than him. I hope he does very well, just not tomorrow.

Coric is currently the world junior no. 4 ... and coached at least partly by Naomi Cavaday judging by her tweets.
