I'll predict that the winner of the Cox v Burzi match will win the tournament and i reckon it will be Dan. The other semi is interesting and could be close as Ashley seems to be in great form.
Must be very good chances for both our boys in the SF. Great to see Ashley playing well. I guess I like players who you could see winning something if they have a good week, rather than those who rack up lots of QFs, but that's their limit. Ashley seems to be someone in the former camp.
But who are the top 200 or top 100 players in our list of the GB 25? Fantastic to see the bottom of the table continue to move upwards, but there still remains a ceiling around 200-250 due to a combination of less risky tournament choices and also a general failure to string together results as Ed HAS done, and continues to do.
If you look at the top 25 table - the majority of the players are in the 400-700 ranking and it needs a lot of 10K points to get from 650 to 500 at the moment.
Ed will be well inside the top 300 after his few weeks in Greece and that is just through consistency at 10K level. Dan Evans should follow suit if he is fit enough to compete in the UK clay events.
Everyone else over 350 ranking has been very inconsistent, but mainly because they keep playing each other week in and week out and they are all capable of beating each other.
Marcus looked like he was capable of a big jump, but cannot string together good weeks.
Of those in the top 25 - Tom F is very consistent and will jump up the rankings and Dan Cox has the ability if he can keep his fitness. Not forgetting the young guns of Oli, Kyle etc who just need to find a run of form that their pedigree suggests.
Since he played here this week I thought this thread was as good a place as any for this post. Oliver Hudson's tweet earlier today really sums up the seemingly very poor attitude of some of our young players. For anyone who missed it, here is what he said.
I hope 2 people pull out of Edinburgh so I don't have to spend my weekend there #fingerscrossed
The context of course is that he is currently fourth alternative with two SEs to clear so if two people drop out he should make the main draw, if not he will be in qualifying.
Now perhaps I am being overly harsh but a) This strikes me as a very poor attitude and b) exceptionally stupid to broadcast that poor attitude to potential opponents. We are talking about someone who supposedly has aspirations of being a successful professional tennis player yet he is happy to tell the world that he doesn't want to spend his weekend playing tennis in Edinburgh.
More from Luke - Norrie was "born in SA. Moved at an early age to NZ. His Mum is SA but born in wales and his dad is Scottish."
If the junior rankings stay the same (Norrie is at no. 10), he'll be the top GB boy in the ITF rankings ahead of Luke. It'll also mean two of the top five GB boys will have been born in Johannesburg, since that was Kyle's place of birth too.
